Very nice radios. I found after doing a bit of reading and understanding the radio it becomes very easy to program and use. Really you only need to be concerned with CTCSS sub frequency / channel. You can use the CTCSS on channels and Repeaters and also on other Frequencies you add on your own. The CTCSS allows you to sub channel frequencies to transmit and receive on repeaters that have this set up and also you can set it up on radio to radio so you can duck other transmissions on the same channel by using a subchannel (CTCSS). Love this feature. Its really the only thing I use. I turn off all the other beeps and blunders and keep it quiet. The range is fantastic on the larger antenna. It's pretty good on the normal antenna too. I get about 2 to 3 miles with it and then on a repeater, depending on the repeater, they will broadcast and receive at various mile radius.I found one at100 miles radius and another at 60 miles radius. Very good stuff especially if you hunt, fish, camp, hike, bike, ride motorcycles, ATV etc... Repeaters will keep you connected outside of 2 miles. I give this set which has 2 radios, antennas and 2 larger antennas, 2 larger capacity batteries, and radio clips. A+ You can't go wrong. They are cheaper and stronger than most GMRS radios that won't got passed 1.2 miles. The build quality is not bad. For Under $50.00 a set You can't really beat it.

It’s not waterproof, but at this price point, it doesn’t matter.[Battery]Able to listen for more than three days on a single charge.[Antennas]For just listening, both antennas included are pretty much the same range.The longer antenna is great when transmitting longer distances.For road trips, the long antenna is difficult to wield around in a small space like a car. It’s not a fault of the radio at all! It’s simply the length of the antenna. Cars are great at blocking signals. We tested them out and my folks could still hear me from my car miles away. To make it even better, we could use some exterior antenna mounts for cars.Are able to talk miles away. Using repeaters means you can go even further.[Programming]These radios are able to be programmed both manually or with a cable and computer. If you’re having issues, make sure you have the cable all the way in.Programming manually isn’t too difficult or complicated, though I couldn’t figure out how to name a memory when programing manually.The cable I used is Btech brand and works flawlessly with the radios I received.Remember, repeaters require a certain input tone for it to notice you and let you use them. If multiple repeaters are close to you, you can use the output tone (basically fancy squelch) to listen to traffic only from the repeater that you want to listen to. There is (a little) more to GMRS than this, but it is all something you’ve got to learn yourself.[Scanning]You can listen to FM, VHF, and UHF.Scans both VHF and UHF. You can also scan FM when listening to standard FM radio.Scanning on both channel mode and frequency mode is pretty fast. This is nice because if scanning is too slow on a radio, you miss more activity.There is only one scan group though. It would be nice if there were multiple so you could have groups for each city or area.It’s neat to turn it on when something happens, like a storm, power outage, or heavy traffic. You can learn a lot about what is going on around you by listening to others sharing that they’ve been impacted or what they know.[Legality]Transmitting requires you obtain a GMRS license from the FCC. Make sure everyone is licensed or covered by a license and understands the rules and announces the callsign.Compliant with FCC in all ways I could find and think of.The FCC requires GMRS radios to be unable to transmit on non-GMRS frequencies. In all ways I could find, this radio is compliant with that - so you should be safe to hand it to your family when you’re doing things like adventuring and traveling.

Works well for a basic set and forget handset. I also find GMRS works very well point to point outdoors where I’m at. This helps grant simply setup comms. It is clear and talks to other GMRS radios well, has very solid range and battery life. Only issue is one of the duckies it came with was misshapen and doesn’t fit. So I use the whip instead.

I own four of these Baofeng GM-15 Pro handi-talkies (GMRS). They are easy to use, have a good, sensitive receiver and transmit clear audio. Since these are GMRS radios, they are limited to a maximum output power of 5 watts, and typically ALL radios in this class, put out a little less than 5 watts. My measured output power is 4.4 watts, which is to be expected and totally acceptable. I use two of these Baofeng GM-15 Pro HTs, set up as a local repeater and the other two to use to communicate with my wife, during a cell phone outage or similar incident. Battery life is good, the screen is very crisp and overall, the radio just feels sturdy. While the Amazon description showed the output power of these HTs as "8 watts", I knew that was NOT the case (legally) and therefore, I was NOT surprised when I measured 4.4 watts on these Hts. The description should be corrected to show the maximum allowable output power, per FCC rules, but otherwise, the description is accurate.

Very pleased with these radios. They are easy to program directly on the radio itself. In my opinion, there really is no reason to have to use a computer to program these unless you are wanting to setup like 20 channels at one time. The radios have good range for me (2.75 miles) in rural country with trees and houses and hills. Only lost signal when I went below a large hill. I have been successful in setting them up to work with a repeater that is nearby. The FM radio works well on these and you can listen to the radio and still send/receive transmissions on whatever channel you were on before you turned on the FM radio. The scan function works well in both frequency mode and channel mode. I was able to listen to some folks apparently working on a John Deere somewhere one evening. Overall, these radios are a steal. Less than $50 for two radios/chargers. The spare antenna is a nice addition too. The included earpieces are not for me. I tried one and they wouldn't fit my ears so I just ordered some better ones. That's another good thing about these, the jacks for the earpieces/microphones and the most popular two prong type available so you should have no problem finding accessories for these radios. Get your $35 GMRS license and purchase these radios, you won't be sorry.
