Dream Come True
I first saw Laguiole cutlery in Orange France back in 2000 on my honeymoon, but was too poor at the time to even consider it. I loved the cigale (cicada) on the back of the pieces, as the cigale seemed to be an emblem of Provence, France. I got some Laguiole cheese cutters I could afford and dreamed of the day I could get a full set. Twenty years later......we got a new lake house. I was looking for modern rustic flatware, and stumbled upon these wood-handled Laguioles which looked exactly perfect. I resolved to get the set of 6 place-settings for my wife for Christmas, but read some reviews stating that they were flimsy and held off. By November there were none left. I kicked myself for my delay. What regret. The perfect set, gone. I kept checking and a half-year later they were available again and I immediately pulled the trigger on a set of six place-settings. They arrived and SO exceeded my expectations. I LOVE them! They are not flimsy, they are sturdy and beautiful. I immediately purchased another set of six. These are the best flatware I have ever owned. They are more than that. They are staggeringly beautiful. They make every meal better, and that's three meal a day every day of my life. I am sure they will take some care (I will never put these beauties in the dishwasher) but all luxury comes with its necessary care. I just can't tell you how much I love these.

The metal is flimsy. And the wood broke.
Don't try to actually use the forks for eating, ie cut a thin steak, or mash a small boiled potato in the sauce on your plate. The fork will bend completely. Even if you try to keep the fork from bending by holding your pointer finger at the base of the fork prongs on the back side, the fork will still bend. Sure you can bend it back into place five times during your meal. Want to do that in front of guests? After you've told them how much you paid for this flatware? Even the Chinese would have made a better product. At least if it were Chinese I wouldn't have wasted almost $500.And wood broke.
