WaveOS doesn't integrate well with YouTube
My business case is to use an encoder to stream a church service to YouTube. This is a regular, once a week, stream. WaveOS doesn't work well for this. On completing a broadcast there is an option to "complete" it. That only creates an "Invalid destination" in the Wave. So you log into YouTube and reset the stream key. Then the Wave will recognize that as a destination. But after updating the Wave "even" with the new destination the work is not done yet. The errors on the Wave are cleared, but when you start a broadcast for the next Sunday service, the Wave asks to "configure" the Event. It doesn't ask until the stream is started. Then there is a scramble to get the Wave Event set up again. Or if the configuration dialog box is dismissed, the Wave takes about 10 minutes to begin to stream video.Zoom is has a much better integration with YouTube. The Wave may be good for other streaming destinations, but not YouTube.

Not ready for prime (Facebook) time!
Unfortunately we were not able to get the WAVE connected to Facebook and Teradek's customer service did not call back when we needed to hear from them. The WAVE has been returned. Our web guy said he suspected the WAVE was not fully developed for a successful Facebook live stream. We used OBS as our plan B and had a successful live event.

Pricey, but robust and powerful; darn near essential for streamers
Admittedly, the price tag is going to put some people off.But if you're a serious streamer or a business/organization that does streaming events, especially if you do remote shoots, it's hard NOT to recommend this product. It puts so much power into such a small package while totally untethering you from your laptop or computer, it can revolutionize what you do. For real.So here's what this device does: It acts as a central hub for EVERYTHING involving your live streams. Using the touchscreen interface, you can create streams to just about any service out there (and yes, you can stream to multiple services at the same time), even building them out ahead of time so that when the time comes, you've already done most of the legwork. Just select your event and start streaming when you're ready. You run your gear into it, it encodes the data and off your stream goes, sent to the world. Meanwhile, you can watch your stream in real time on the device even while managing all aspects of the back end, all while recording the stream too.And it does it all on one screen. No more juggling a million devices.Other devices might be able to accomplish some of this, but it's designed from the ground up with being used on the go in mind. It does just about everything better, and the small details really sell it. For instance, you can power it with a USB-C connection, but if you use the two batteries on the back because you're on the go, you can swap out one of the batteries at any time and the other will keep your stream going. No worries about dead batteries!Having had the frustration of having to stop mid-stream to swap batteries, this is a big deal, especially for professional streamers, businesses and organizations doing streaming events, and more. The menu and interface is impeccable. Great UI that is easy to navigate and use, very intuitive all around. Setting up Wifi networks is easy as pie. So is building events. You can customize them to make them easy to scroll through.Using the WaveApp, you can monitor your stream from anywhere, too, so if you've got your Wave and other gear setup in a stationary location, that's okay. You can still keep an eye on things from anywhere on location.Like I said, this was made with streaming events in mind. It's purpose built for it.Video quality is great, too, and I had no trouble getting it to work with my camera and gear. The price tag will admittedly be a sticking point for some. It's much more than the casual user can be expected to spend. But businesses, organizations, pro streamers and others will find it's a worthwhile investment. This gear is made specifically with streaming in mind, you can leave the computer at home, and it does its job exceptionally well.If this sounds like it's right for you, it probably is.SD Card support,

You get what you pay for
Lets start with build quality which is exceptional. It's mostly metal and feels quite robust. If you know anything about Teradek you will know the higher quality items they produce and the Wave is no exception. The screen is super bright at 1,000 nits and is touch screen. I've never seen a stand quite like this in a field monitor before. It's all metal and incredibly sturdy. This device not only serves as a field monitor but it is an all in one solution for live streaming. Usually when something tried to be several different things, then usually it doesn't do any of those things incredibly well. That isn't the case with the Wave. As a monitor it is fantastic. Bright and bold (and accurate!) colors with plenty of detail. As a live streaming device it is almost second to none. Everything you need is built into the monitor. No need for a separate computer. Now this is a single source device so if you need to do video switching you will need a separate device before this in the chain. There is more than enough battery life using 2 NP-F950 batteries for any live event that I could think of. However they are hot swapable so once one battery dies, the device will start using the other battery and then you can replace the dead one with a fresh one. You can also just power it off of a USB C battery bank. The stability of your streams will be more solid with this than any other device I can think of due to it's network bonding. Using Teradek's service you can bond your wireless, ethernet or even a USB modem to get the most solid network connection possible. This is no small feature and probably one of the biggest reasons to get the Wave in the first place. If your stream is mission critical and simply can't afford for it to go down this one feature alone is worth the asking price. This is the device you get when you are streaming professionally meaning you are getting paid for the service. Nothing screams amateur more that having your stream go down because your wireless connection went down. With the network bonding of this device that shouldn't happen to you as long as you are using one of the other connection types.
