Easy setup
Going into this purchase you should already know it does not come with a hard drive. It is recommended to install a hard drive designed for surveillance or NAS. To install the drive, you remove three screws from the rear of the device and slide the outer shell off. The unit comes with three bags of screws, one for each hard drive you can install. You secure the hard drive by screwing from the bottom of the unit into the hard drive being mounted inside. Hook up the SATA and power cables, and screw the cover back on.The device will need to be connected by HDMI to a tv/monitor for initial setup. Use the provided mouse to navigate through the setup screens. After you add the cameras from this interface, they can be maintained from the REOLINK app.Overall the setup process took a bit of time, but was straight forward. However, the included documentation should go over how to install the hard drive, which it is lacking.

Great upgrade
I'm basically starting over with my cameras around my house and property, I do like the fact that you can choose what hard drives you put in. I maxed out my other dvr and was told that I needed to replace everything, and this is why I choose reolink, so far, its doing wonderful I like the fact that you don't have to have a monitor to check footage and can use an app or software on a computer.

It is a good piece of hardware, but its web UI is lacking.
Original:It is a solid NVR after you add a few good brand fans. Pay attention that this is not the model with the poe switch built in. Overall, my disappointment is with their web interface that it only displays one camera at a time and keeps displaying the error "-104 unknown". They could claim to have an app for viewing multiple cameras simultaneously, but it doesn't work for Linux users. They should invest in improving their web interface by adding grid views(that is not a 2 weeks job for a software engineer). I'll continue to update the firmware, and if they add this feature to their web UI, I'll give it five stars.Update 07/12/24:The "-104 unknown" error message appears when I open the web UI and view a camera. If I click "duplicate" to open a new tab and view a second camera, the error occurs(and keeps popping up every few seconds). However, if I open blank new tabs and log in to the NVR in each one of them, the error message does not appear.

Excellent Product
I upgraded all my Amcrest cameras to Reolink Duo 4k Cameras and mixed models. This DVR is a like beast. It records everything smoothly and very fast on playback. My previous Amcrest DVR sometimes locked up and piggy on HDD size and app was suck especially playing back video and download footage. This is best investment so far! I hope Reolink app provides realtime viewing on Android tablet. It times out. By the way, some poster recommend add internal 40mm fans. I did mine.

Better deal than the PoE NVRs
Get this, a HDD, and a PoE switch instead of a Reolink NVR with a built in PoE switch. With this model you can add more channels and more storage.

DISHONEST AND DECEPTIVE COMPANY - STAY AWAY
Purchased an entire Reolink setup with junction boxes, cameras, an officially supported hard drive per their documentation, and an NVR. Set everything up, checked it for a few days on the app to make sure it was working and let it run. The first mistake was mine- not buying an NVR that has hard drive redundancy. Had to check the recordings a week or so later, no recordings for the past five days. Check the storage, hard drive has unmounted itself or otherwise corrupted itself and recordings are gone. I checked the hard drive by connecting it to my laptop and running a SMART test (the Reolink NVR also doesn't support any kind of hard drive diagnostics / monitoring, silly me for assuming basic features that you would want in a reliable security system are included) and the drive is fine. So now I know that the NVR is not reliable and has no form of redundancy. I go to setup the FTP functionality to send backups to a different location, lo and behold the option is missing. I dig through the Reolink knowledgebase, the UI I'm seeing doesn't match the articles at all. I reach out to support, they clarify that "new UI" on their website means accessing the NVR directly then they inform me the 36-channel NVR doesn't support FTP. Only the cheaper models with less channels do. Their website doesn't say this, the Amazon listing doesn't say this, they just decided to skip features on the most expensive "highest end" NVR. I point this out to their support and they offer me a $15 coupon to purchase a cheaper NVR that does support FTP. I ask that the issue be escalated, and the "manager" tells me that backup doesn't mean backup, it means that you can download a clip from the NVR then offers me the same $15 coupon. Oh, and all these support replies come in at midnight to 3am Pacific time. Interesting that their US offices are open that late!I know Reolink is cheap and looks great on paper, but their marketing is dishonest and their "support" is insulting.

Smooth and easy set up, and it has soooo much space!
So glad to know that Reolink provides us with a big otion for more cameras!I've actually set 2x 16 channel NVR's in one install in the past. lolVery bulky at the end. This NVR with a couple of hard drives and of course a 24+ channelP.O.E switch fits well with space to spare in the locker box!For the peeps that have installed a few, there is nothing really different other than thevast amount of space for cameras. My latest project houses 21 cameras. 11x RLC-820A - 6x RLC-842A and 4X RLC-822A
