A great idea for those who enjoy skipping
As somebody who is into health and fitness and exercises at least 4-5 times a week I was keen to be able to mix up my workout routines with something different. After seeing these digital skipping ropes I was keen to try one. This RENPHO one takes a step further than regular digital skipping ropes and connects via Bluetooth to your phone and the Renpho health app.I have an iPhone and it was straight forward to download the app.In the app you get the option to add a device and once the batteries are installed the rope automatically turns on and you get the option to pair with it so it is very simple. The rope has 3 main settings, free skip, a time target for skipping or a target number of steps. These can be selected on the rope itself via a simple button that uses a system of short or long presses to select the setting you wanted.I didn’t find this very convenient as there is no obvious way to reset or go back a step if you set an incorrect target. You can also set targets on the app.The app itself is more geared towards integration with the Renpho body fat scales but there is a separate screen for the skipping rope.It is definitely easier to set your target via the app, plus there are also challenges to do such as a target number of skips a target time to skip for or a challenge to achieve a certain number of skips within a set time frame. The app allows you to link to the apple health app (or android equivalent), Fitbit and MyFitnessPal. I have linked my account to apple health and MyFitnessPal but it didn’t seem to sync my skipping activity.I personally have found this handy to use with skipping workout DVDs as it makes it slightly more fun than basic skipping. For those who also get bored easily this is a great option. You can burn up to 1000 calories per hour skipping so it’s definitely a great exercise.I’m not sure that it’s worth the current price point, but then again it’s all relevant to how much you’ll use it and what you would gain from it.As I incorporate it here and there into my routines I personally would feel like it was worth paying a little less.

Game changer
This works considerably better than I'd hoped. It's comes with several types of tracking your performance (time, reps) and it lets you know when you hit your targets. Very smooth, very impressed!

Concept great, product not so :(
The rope didn't switch off, just kept beeping on shelf and ran batteries down. Counter just kept going to lines, really disappointing as purchased for cancer skip challenge. Am having to return

quality looks good but not sure about ease of use
Quality of rope looks good. App is not the most straightforward and you have to register in order to really use the rope. Also not too sure about accuracy but might be question of using the rope more

The cable, being rubbery, is a little unusual for older folks and feels lightweight
I am not sure what I expected to be honest. It's been a while since I did any jump roping. My partner and I tried this out and we weren't terribly impressed, but it's hard to put a finger on it. The first thing was that the "rope" was very light. Everything is very light. We grew up with actual ropes so having lightweight rubberised cabling was unusual for us. With that said, it looks put together well and you can adjust the cabling very easily. There are little grommets that keep the cabling together in the handles and these easily fall off (at least they did with us). We had to keep putting them back on. I can't say much for the app just yet as we're still working out how to keep it going, though my partner has developed a rhythm by almost walking forward. I'm not sure why you need it tied to an app, though. If you can keep it going for a certain amount of time, that would seem more than enough for determining how well the exercise is going, but it's all electric these days. All in all, it's neat, and maybe modern workout enthusiasts will like it, but it's too lightweight for us personally.
