Start your Jazz journey here
I highly recommend this book (as well as any of Mr. Alexander's other products) if you are interested in a) learning how jazz functions, b) like the way jazz sounds and conveys emotions, and c) are willing to put in some practice. I am an intermediate player at best and learned open chords, etc to build confidence. Now that I am learning jazz, the best way to describe the benefits of this book is to keep an open mind and ear to what the lessons and techniques will allow you to produce. Like any other instrument, you need to practice what you learn and build on those skills. This book is successful in that and also progresses at a pace that any guitarist can handle. The skills, tones, techniques, and confidence you'll gain by working through this book will get you hooked on the fun that playing jazz can bring. It did for me!

Great book!
Thoughtfully constructed ideas and insights. Incredibly helpful and a great addition to my guitar book library. Looking forward to buying some of the other titles.

If you've got the dextarity this is what you need
It's more than I was just born without rhythm, I don't have the dexterity needed. Not the books fault. This book gives you what you need.

Awesome book!
I recently got this book and I am blown away by it. I’ve always had a hard time learning jazz but the layout in this book makes it simple and easy to understand. In just a few weeks I’m playing the standards and learning deeper theory. I highly recommend this book to anyone just starting out with jazz guitar.

Great balance of theory and application
I have several Jazz guitar books by Joseph Alexander and enjoy them all. The First 100 Jazz Chords for Guitar is excellent. It explains jazz chords in an approachable and systematic way. I have been looking for a resource like this for a long time.

Finally!
I love the style of instruction. It is clear, concise with excellent examples that are not complex. The ideas are introduced logically and effectively. I have been looking at different instruction books and pick up little things from each one. This book brings these ideas together in a way that makes sense. Highly recommended.

Getting practical with the theory
This is a great book! It helped me to understand the foundations, i.e., the theory of why chords are major or minor, or diminished, etc., and why they are named differently, e.g., sus4. On the practical side, the book taught the basic shapes of each type of chord, so now I'm able to understand them and play progressions in a shorter time, with better understanding and better options.
