Simple
It’s a red dot with a sheild. Not a closed emitter but perfect as is.

Not for large caliber hand pistols
I purchased this a couple weeks ago and finally took it out after mounting this on my 10m pistol. After firing it for the second time, the buttons to change the red dot brightness cam flying off. What?Needless to say this was a disappointment. Prior to that, I liked this budget red dot other than the cover screws are soft and easy to over torq and strip the head. The cover helps keep it clean, easy to zero, and once zeroed I found it was on target. It was clear, bright and mounted well. Buttons and the external battery slot was well placed.Fortunately the return policy is in place and I will see if the replacement is more durable. I will try it on "just a 9" and see if it holds up okay. If it does, great. Otherwise this maybe a really oversized BB airsoft red dot.

Doesnt fit docter footprint
It’s ok. Doesn’t fit docter cut slides at all. Disappointing af.

Different than most
This red dot is different, not just the lenshade, but also has a wider window/field of view, and thus sits a little wider than my two other Doctor Footprint sights, a "Perry" made by ADE and a Burris FastFire2, on top of the slide. I have it on a Service Sized 9mm, Girsan MC28SATV, it replaced the red dot branded "Perry" that came on it, that is also made by ADE but isn't a shake awake model, and the body of the RD3-028 red dot overhangs the sides of the slide just a smidge. The lenshade is a unique idea versus the usual rubber cover, its actually functional in bad weather or just strong sun, but it does have to be affixed with provided screws, which means no access to adjusting the elevation setting once installed, so do you're sighting in before you attach it.

it works, nice and functional, good price
Who doesn’t love a micro mailbox!? It’s easy enough to mount with either pic rail adapter or with direct plate mount. And yes as someone else mentioned you can indeed adjust elevation with the hood in place. While it would be nice if the entire thing were a solid hooded piece and be more protected, I think this generally will be just fine for the most part. Just don’t drop it in mud and get that down inside the hood or you’re screwed until you can wash it out!ADE is really doing quite a good job with functions and features. I think for the budget price it’s a really good option. Shake awake is basically a standard feature everyone should have now for something you intend to use as a nightstand or ready to action piece. I weigh the unit itself without mounts or cover as 1.7oz (49g). With pic mount as 2.8oz (81g). With cover and pic mount as 3.3oz (95g). And on a forty five degree ADE mount without cover it’s 3.0oz (85g). Forty five mount plus cover as 3.4oz (99g).I found the dot good enough for my astigmatic eyes. Meaning it’s a starburst, but they all are so what can I do about it? But it’s no worse than others I’m using so it just is what it is. And it seems just fine at home on a PCC or small shooters. And makes a good backup on the offset of an AR. I may even try it on a shotgun at some point.

Bright/Crisp. All Metal. Side Battery Tray (CR2032). Shake Awake. A Good Value.
Overall: 5/5ADE really caught my eye a couple of years ago when I tried out one of their green lasers. It wasn’t particularly expensive, but performed like it was – and in an incredibly small form factor that’s still one of my favorite firearms purchases. Like the laser, this unit didn’t disappoint illustrating its durability right out of the box by including an all-metal weather shield – something I’ve rarely seen. The unit is small and a bit wide, but completely adequate for pistol shooting. The dot was bright and crisp, the functionality is intuitive, the battery tray (to change the battery (CR20232 BTW) while on the firearm) is wonderful, and shake awake is a great feature for any powered optic. Uses the Doctor footprint and includes the ever-present hex keys. Still considering what to mount it on (probably a 9) – so it hasn’t made it to the range – which is the only true test of performance. Presumptively going 5/5 overall on this one based on past experience with products from the vendor and the details and quality that I can observe from the unit. It the true test knocks it down I’ll be back to update the review.Quality: 5/5Well made with no noticeable flaws. For a small unit it seems very durable – including the metal sun shade.Value: 5/5A good value considering durability (all metal), previous brand experience, size, weight, performance, and comps.

ADE has other better optics options
This is not what I expected and am wondering if ADE could just sell the weather shield as an accessory for its better optics. Although it has some nice features like motion awake and a side loading battery, i cannot get over the short battery life. Even with the motion wake technology, this is an optic that is going to have to be turned on and off manually or an extra battery and tools is going to have to be carried around, or batteries will have to be changed every month. Having a weather shield for an optic that requires this close attention is kind of weird to me.
