This is a good little light.... . The end hook is metal and quite sturdy. There is plenty of light, though I wouldn't say it was equivalent to a 40W incandescent bulb. One light would be great inside a tent to read by. The LEDs are current limited by using surface resistors. Simple and it works, but not very energy efficient. The bulb shell is all plastic. It is NOT weather resistant AT ALL, so keep that in mind. Do not leave this out in the rain. The wire coming out of the bulb is tied in a knot to provide "strain ". If the bulb twists around, there is nothing to keep the wire from also twisting (where it is soldered to the bulb). Enough twisting and it is sure to break the solder joints. Easy fix! The entire bulb assembly UNSCREWS! The rounded light cover unscrews, and the end end with the hook. I took a hot glue and put a small blob at the very top of the fixture to keep the wire in place. If you are electronically handy, and willing to put in some time, I'd imagine you could modify this bulb to use a more sophisticated current limiting circuit. That would involve bypassing all the SMD resistors and inserting the circuit in the backside ares of the bulb. Looks like there is plenty of room for a small circuit board.
