very good for making reproductions, upscaling etc.
A really useful book for any seamstress who has been approached/want to make a reproduction of or make an updated version of a much loved garment and in a way that leaves you with a grade-able pattern to re-use!Brilliant for me, I love vintage dresses but I'm a gangly five foot ten. The language is accessible, the tone light and friendly with out being to "dumbed down" while still being accessible to a newbie. The examples given are pretty ugly, but that's more a question of individual taste than anything.

Great book and I can't even sew :)
I am not a sewer and I am not a regular body shape. I have started at the beginning and love this - flat patterning, that is. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to reproduce their favourite clothes. Having read the 3D patterning I don't think it will be beyond me - once I have practised the flat version. I am full of hope that what currently seems a bit impenetrable will make perfect sense if I just work through the tasks as set. I will admit my first version was awful, but that was my sewing, the pattern block was easy to do and does work, now I can sew better :)Weirdly I posted this on the American site by accident. I must wear my glasses more often :D

Good Buy!
It will take sometime for me to master some techniques in the book. But overall is a good buy! Even if you are a beginner, you can always purchase it for future use...

disappointing
I am disappointed with this book and would not have bought it if I had been able to look through it in a bookshop. The reviews and the pages that Amazon were able to show made me think that it would focus on making patterns from a variety of garments. It does this to a certain extent but using only very simple garments and some bags. Much of the book is taken up with how to sew the patterns once made and I would have thought anyone planning to make their own pattern would already be familiar with basic sewing techniques. The photographs of finished garments often appear to be a poor fit on the models which belies the title. I feel it was a waste of money and anyone thinking of buying it should try to see the whole book first.

Brilliant easy to follow book
Since buying this book I have been able to duplicate a favourite dress and now have the pattern to make it as many times as I want in different fabrics. For this fact alone this book is worth every penny.

Good - but missing something
Overall a good book. Very useful. I really miss a chpter on how to copy pants/jeans. If such a chapter was added, I would buy the next book in a heartbeat!
