Q: Is it possible to keep this locked fully upright (standing), or will heavier weights force it to sink?

There is no ability to "lock" the desk at any particular height. But I can say, based on how the lift mechanism works and the way the gearing is set up, there is absolutely no way this thing is coming down on its own. The unit is very sturdy and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the actual maximum weight is higher than stated. The motor being able to lift more than the stated max is a different story, which is probably why they have it listed as low as they do. Great purchase, you won't be disappointed.
