Possibly the must have book for newcomers to Strength Training
I first came across the the "condensed" (novel size) version of this book which appeared as a freebie with the March 2011 edition of Men's Health (UK). That condensed version inspired me to buy the full version, and I've not been disapointed. Dorling Kindersley are experts at producing clear concise and easy to read factual and explanitory books, and in "Strengh Training" they applied that expertise to the maximum.I guess I sort-of collect fitness and training books, pulling information here and there to update and refresh my workouts as I go along. A few of those books are great, most are good, and some have been awful, but not one of them is so clear, well written, and presented as this book. The only thing this book seems to lack is enthusiasm, it is in some ways too factual (lacking any sense of humor), but with everything else going for it this is nothing more than a minor niggle. All in all, this is the best novice to intermediate level book on the subject of strength training I've yet found.

Good, could be better
Interesting stuff to read about and consider for any kind of fitness or weight training. I would have liked to have seen more structured programmes at the end, especially ones that don't rely on any machines whatsoever.

Comprehensive book
This publication is just what I wanted. I had ordered another book but when it arrived I had to return it as though the content seemed helpful the limited diagrams and charts were unreadable due to their size and the quality of the print. This book, for a slightly higher price, is the exact opposite. It is well illustrated and has very clear explanations and as a novice is exactly what I wanted.Overall it provides me with a clear guidance as to what exercises will develop what muscles and how to carry these out correctly. Very happy with the purchase of this publication.

Useful to refer back to
Bought this years ago, lent it to a friend and then eventually had to buy another copy. Really useful as it shows all the exercises that you need to do for which muscle and how to do them in good form. The big exercises are one per page, smaller exercises are two per page. It's not spiral bound, but the pages open flat without you having to hold them down. This book is a useful addition to all the other books like The Strength Training Anatomy Workout which gives workouts that will increase size faster. II would also recommend Dinosaur Training Secrets if you want to do squat, deadlifts and bench presses correctly.

Well laid out but needs greater depth
A good entry text to strength training, but there was nothing new I learnt. A bit more depth would be nice but it’s a well laid out book, regardless.
