Chair Yoga great for all ages
I’ve been going to a yoga class 1-2 times a week at my gym. We have a wide range of ages participating so we often do chair yoga. I am in my 30s so of course I thought “this will be easy” and “guess I won’t be getting a workout today”, I was wrong. As a matter of fact, my first day doing chair yoga I was more sore than without the chair! Now it’s only as challenging as you make it, and you have listen to your body and learn your limits. Using the chair was so effective in allowing me to push myself safely without knee strain or other injuries. I think it just helped my confidence too.So when I saw this book I thought, I know it says for seniors but I’m sure it can hold some wisdom for me too. Some days I’m not feeling up to going to gym but I still need to keep myself moving and motivated, so I don’t end up in a slump. Chair yoga would be a great option for me to workout at home, but I was worried I wouldn’t remember the best poses.I thought I’d only be reading this for the poses as a refresher to work on at home. But I love that this book is illustrated to help you visualize how to do these poses. Also, the author talks about more than just poses but simple ways to live a healthier life, even if you are just starting out. I am active and working on being more fit, but I know it’s hard to get started into fitness. Just because someone is a senior doesn’t mean they can’t start taking better care of themselves now. Even if it’s the first time they are trying out a healthier life, I feel this book made getting started into that more attainable and approachable. I love to see people encouraging each other and making others feel welcome to improve themselves without any pressure behind it. This book is a great introduction to a healthy active lifestyle, as well as safe chair yoga. The accessibility this brings out for seniors is refreshing. I wish more people understood and took better care to include seniors.

Finally, an easy to follow method I can recommend.
Audrey Fitzgerald has accomplished the impossible! She has created a book that is EASY to understand with clearly drawn images to show proper positioning for each exercise; PERFECT for the visual learner. I plan to recommend this book to ALL of my Natural Health Clients, regardless of age. No one is ever too old to start moving more. In fact, these simple yet effective exercises, would be appropriate for all ages from pre-school on up! Imagine the improved flexibility, strength, and balance that could be achieved if these simple (yet extremely effective) exercises were incorporated as a habit from youth. I am crossing my fingers that Audrey will offer video versions to follow along with in the near future. Your health is your greatest asset. Audrey has given us all a valuable gift of improved health. Grab a chair and get started!Dr. RoeTheBloodLady.com

Good Exersizes for Someone Who Can't Do Them the Regular Way
My only problem is getting started with the program. Other than that, the excersizes are clean, pictured & concise. And they work!

Great yoga content for seniors and anyone with mobility issues!
This book by Audrey Fitzgerald was really informative and helpful for someone like me with mobility issues. I've been looking for a good seated yoga book for a long time and this one gave me everything I was looking for. Read on for my full review.Yoga is an exercise that can provide relief from aches and pains for only 10 minutes a day and chair yoga (Hatha yoga) is great for people who have issues getting up and down off the floor. Seniors will find this helpful, as will people with mobility issues, like me.Ms. Fitzgerald has listed all of the benefits of yoga, including:*Reduced stress and depression*Weight loss*Improved respiration and sleep*Chronic disease management*Strengthened bones*Improved mental health*Increased mind-body connection*Enhanced balance, flexibility, mobility, and stabilityOne thing I liked about this book is that the author mentioned that if you have a sedentary lifestyle (such as working all day in an office setting, like I do), chair yoga is perfect, because you can take frequent breaks throughout the day to do a 10 minute session. She also said it's never too late to begin a yoga fitness program and she emphasized consulting your doctor before starting any new exercise routine.Chapter 4 contained 15 simple chair yoga poses with illustrations and step by step instructions. The Indian name and English name are both used. My favorite and most challenging pose: Seated Tree PoseChapter 5 contained 11 simple chair yoga cardio poses for weight loss with illustrations and step by step instructions. The Indian name and English name are both used. My favorite and most challenging pose: Seated JacksChapter 6 contained a 10 minute chair yoga workout with warm up and cool down, with illustrations and step by step instructions. This is a great chapter to go to if you're in a hurry and want to do a short workout.Chapter 7 contains the best diet for weight loss, flexibility and decreasing inflammation. There were definitely some helpful hints in this chapter. I learned a lot about how much protein I should be taking in, among other things!Overall, this book was just what I needed to get me working out in my chair. I love that there's a chart that shows all of the poses contained in each chapter at the end of every chapter for your reference.

simple, yet comprehensive!
I am a yoga teacher and often work with seniors and participants with strength, balance, and mobility challenges. I wish I would have had this book when I first started teaching! It's comprehensive, sharing research, but also simple and accessible. I love the section on developing a growth mindset and positive attitude. Yoga is about cultivating openness in mind, body, and spirit and this books covers it all! The author even covers the importance of warming up the body and paying special attention to certain health issues plus how important it is to listen to your body and use additional props, skip poses, or modify if needed. There are clear images for each chair pose with simple, detailed instructions to follow along with the benefits and what each pose works and opens up.I highly recommend this book for anyone new to yoga, with injuries or with mobility challenges, and to anyone that just wants a gentle practice.

Truth in the Title. Wish I’d had this years ago
I’m a multiply disabled senior. Have spastic AND athetoid cerebral palsy plus spinal stenosis and other stuff.’ Doctors, physiotherapists? They don’t help. This book did. Clear. Concise. Gives alternatives if you think an exercise might be beyond you. She doesn’t stop at the chair yoga either, but gives other helpful advice for living your best life as a senior. I’m going to put them into practice as well. I have nothing to lose. There’s nothing ‘faddish’ in this book. It’s solid.. I did the exercises I could do, modified some per suggestion. No pain, all gain. Great illustrations. Wonderful book. I’m grateful. Much respect to the author for a labour of passion and dedication. This is coming from someone who doesn’t usually write reviews.
