For a car mechanic, this is likely to be about as useful as a chocolate teapot. However, for anyone who has a basic interest in cars and is keen in understanding what is required to keep them happy, this is a really useful piece of kit.In all likelihood, the most useful features will be to check and provide information on error codes (when the engine management light illuminates) and giving details on the battery voltage. It also provides information on various other parameters, such as oxygen sensor readings, accelerator pedal position etc but I suspect these are only likely to be those who are more mechanically minded.The device is very easy to connect to the OBDII port and fortunately, no error codes were found (which wasn't surprising, given my engine management light is not currently illuminated). However, if an error code were to be found, the device will provide details of the code and it is then possible to look up further details as to the part or sensor which is causing the fault and give you an idea as to what it might take to fix it. If it is an isolated fault, the error code can also easily be cleared.The other aspect to this device which I will find useful is the battery voltage checker. When I tested it, it returned a voltage of 12.0v (which equates to about a 50% charged battery) and so now I know I need to place my car on a trickle charger. For completeness, I then also tested the battery with a multi-meter and it returned a voltage of 12.1v. As such, this device is not completely accurate but it is within the right ball park and provides a reasonably reliable summary of the status of your car battery.Overall, a useful tool for providing some basic information about the health of your car.

Came with instructions and was very easy to use. Good quality, robust construction. Used it to fault find engine management problem. Saved paying for diagnostics. There is a facility to reset everything so engine management light goes out. However, this does not cure the problem and the issue should be dealt with in the near future. I would definitely recommend this product.

Unlike the more expensive 'ThinkOBD500', this EXCTOOL connected immediately with my Peugeot 307sw. Has all the functions expected from a dIY budget code reader, but has a larger FaultCode library, and was nearly £10 cheaper. Certainly as good as my older FoxWell unit. The only small point is that it lacks the USB 'C' cable for connection to a computer, and details of how/when to connect for any updates.Some readers on the market seem to be generic, with a different supplier name. So if they look the same, they probably are. For example, there are three all looking like the aforementioned ThinkCar model, so all were discounted based on it's lack of performance.I would recommend this as a Must Have 'shed/garage' item, and as a compliment to a mini (elm type) android unit to keep in the glove box.

This item although is useful to have for most vehicles , unfortunately the plug to connect to my car does not fit…It is not suitable for any Peugeot 207 year 2008-2009 because of connection plug .So I will have to return it for a refund .

Easy to use and quickly diagnosed engine management light problem, replaced failed sensor and then simply erased fault log; job done

Fits my Mini R50, works OK but didn't help me solve the problems I'm having, I'm sure the product is fine and will be handy in the future.
