Lindy Toolless Cat.5e Surface Mount Box
M**S
Not CAT6 compliant
The listing stated that these are "CAT6" surface mount boxes. However, having purchased some, what this actually means is that you can put CAT6 cable into them (great!) - they are not shielded and are only rated to CAT5E / 100mhz. So while they are neat and well made, if you are running CAT6, they will break the continuity on the shielding. Lindy themselves advertise these as "CAT6" but then say "Meets C5e EIA/TIA 568B standard" so the manufacturer is selling off old CAT5E kit as CAT6. Great if you are ok with CAT5E, no good for CAT6.

A good idea…
Let down by the design. I found that the “tool less” design didn’t quite deliver - maybe I had undersize cable for the connector, but when I closed the caps down the wire were pushed into the metal v’s but this didn’t break through the plastic sleeve of the wires so there was no connection …. I ended up having to strip the wires and fold the bare wire back over the sleeve and then secure them in place to get a d connection. Bit of a faff!

Rather small but easy enough to install - recommended
My only gripe with this product is that the wiring legend inside the device is impossible to read; I ended up taking a photo of the connectors with my phone in order to identify the colour coding of the all the wires. It worked well enough though, even with Cat6 cable which is somewhat thicker than Cat 5.

Works well
I really like these, they are easy to krone and you don't even need to screw them onto the wall as there's a 3M style sticker that is very secure - just drill a hole, put in a grommet and you're good. I have ordered 8 of these now on 3 occasions.

Does the trick
The tool-less punchdown/idc seems to work ok For normal use you'll probably need the B color code on the sticker but DO CHECK FIRST Remember with care you can remove the board, for ease of wiring!

Very easy to fit
These are great. I was worried it would be hard to wire but it's very simple. Choose the wiring method, make sure both ends are the same. It's small and neat, much easier than bashing out the wall to fit a backbox and front plate.

Poor Quality
I have fitted a number of RJ45 sockets, despite trying multiple times I couldn't get a stable connection.Replace with a more conventional RJ45 socket & worked first time.

Small, exactly what I was after. Works perfectly. Downside was the colour sticker was is a bit misleading other good
