Great project to get kids into STEM.
This was awesome. I did this with my 1 and 3 year old. I had them paint the wood cut out then I put the car together for them. They had Soo much fun playing with the rc car. It's been two weeks since I made it and it's still their go-to toy. The instructions can be a little clearer but it could be just that I am not that experienced at putting this type of stuff together. Tip: The battery holder with the metal switch is for the rc remote.

Worked Well, Less Sturdy than Expected
Packaged well. Had all its parts. Worked fine.

DIY RC
So far we have gotten it in and my son is putting it together. He seems very happy to have it and excited. I’m excited that it came in super early and in good condition.

A fun project to do WITH a kid
The media could not be loaded. I ordered this kit for review. It is listed for ages 8-12 and since I have an eight year old grandson, I decided to build it with him. I quickly became aware that it was a little too complicated for him to do, but working side by side, we had a pretty good time with it. I left him do the painting and decorating, as well as some of the building while I took one the electronics and the rest of the construction. Overall, it was a good project. There are a couple things to look out for here though. The battery boxes for the kit have a different configuration of holes than what is indicated in the instructions. The holes run horizontally rather than vertically. Unfortunately, the holes in the base of the car were still drilled for the other orientation. By the time I figured this out, I had to remove the battery box and drill new holes, because otherwise the rear axle would not go on and the car would not work. It was an easy fix once I figured it out. The instructions also have a few other discrepancies. Namely shorter screws were called for in attaching the circuit board in the car, but they would not work without cracking the circuit board, there were longer screws provided in the kit, which I used, but those crews were meant for some of the body panels, which I ended up having to glue into place because the remaining screws were too short. Also at one point the directions call for two rubber band drives on each side of the axles, but the photos only call for one and only one is provided. This is likely just a typo, and the car works quite well with just one, but it took me a minute to figure that out. Lastly the car does not steer. Its functions are forward and backward only, which given the price of the kit and the recommended age of the builders is more than sufficient. One last thing. If you have a small magnetic screwdriver, it would really come in handy. The provided screws are small, and it was hard to get them into some of the tighter places.I realize that the previous copy sounds like a lot of problems, but that is just me trying to tell you want to look out for. This was a good project than my grandson and I really enjoyed doing. The car works very welland we had fun, or as I like to day, "two guys named David gave this four thumbs up." It's not perfect, but for the price, it provided us with a good time together, and that's what got it five stars.

Good STEAM kit, A little challenging for younger audiences
This RC Car Kit is intended for ages 8-12; however, I think that an eight year old might have difficulty following the instructions. There are a lot of small parts and pieces that are somewhat difficult to hold together and assemble into a cohesive product. At one point in the instruction manual it suggests using a lighter to remove the coating of a wire which is not something I would want my child doing alone. There is a "adult supervision" warning label for this portion of the project.I think overall though, it is a good STEAM project that blends understanding electronics as well as offering a bit of integrated art in the painting kit. I like that it does provide all the tools and components necessary to have a working product in the end including batteries; however, I do think this is more appropriate for the 12-16 age bracket.

Too difficult for kids
I love the concept, idea, and creativity, however this buildable RC car is too difficult for the ages that it recommends. It has a lot of wires and intricate parts. The painting part is great and easy, but parents are going to be doing most if not all of the building portion. I would say this is for much older kids.

Definitely requires adult help, plus it didn’t have all pieces for assembly
I got this to assemble with my child. It took about an hour, and it definitely needed adult support. It was slightly tedious and I’m not sure an 8 year old would be able to actually put it together. Unfortunately, the kit also had some issues. It did not have a few parts to it; such as the front wheel rod.So we weren’t able to install the front wheels. And some of the screw holes were misaligned. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this kit due to those 2 things alone.

Adult help needed
Looked easy, cheap price, fair quality. Biggest downside is that adult help is needed to burn plastic off the wire. I really wanted a model that my 10 year old could assemble all on his own. Then, come to find out there isn’t a motor in the dang box! I’m so mad!
