Multi-Sharp 1105 Replacement Abrasives for Cylinder Lawn Mower Blade Sharpener 30 cm/12-Inch Cutting Width

These were bought as spares for the sharpening kit bought at same time.I've used the sharpening kit once (see my review) and these spares are identical - so guess I can review how they worked for me here.Having cleaned the area thoroughly before attempting to stick these on I followed the instructions - which specify bending the abrasive along one side of the whole length in order to make a slight curve for sticking and fitting to the sharpening kit plate. I did this but found that the strip just would not adhere properly to the sharpening kit, it kept opening up at various points along the plate and would not lie flat. Eventually I had to remove the first abrasive strip and discard because some of the backing came off. I decided to start again with a second strip but used a bit of my own strong glue in order to keep the strip down properly. This worked. The strip stayed flat and in situ and I got on with sharpening the cylinder blades. I expect the only problem will be when I get round to taking this strip off to replace it with another one. But having sharpened the cylinder once it still looks like it could be re-used - so that issue remains to be seen. As for the quality of sharpening - the cylinder blades had to be adjusted several times in order for abrasive to make contact with the whole length of the blades. After about 5 minutes and there were several black lines remaining at various points along the blades that just wouldn't sharpen up. Having said that the grass was much easier to cut, there was no tearing or discolouration from having been ripped/torn (as was the case prior to sharpening). So, although fiddly to put on the sharpening aspect did work hence four stars.

These strips work well and give a good edge to the lawnmower blades. I can certainly recommend them!

not many rotary blade sharpeners around , these work ok but you can only use them a couple of times before you have to throw them away and use a new strip. these do save you from having the rotary blades professionally sharpened which would be expensive. delivery was fine

I have an old 12 inch rotary hand mower, cant stand electric mowers. My first impression of just a strip of abrasive on a length plastic stuck to the bottom plate was a recipe for disaster. The instructions said with a few rotations look for blades to show signs of a polished surface, this was achieved after several adjustments to my old mower to allow the thing to move. On reflection it was my inability to master even the most elementary lesson to adjust the spring after messing about with holding nuts. The finished result was to my amazement a sharp old mower that is my pride and joy, you know it is sharp by the sound of crisp metal on metal. A result for endeavour, patience, a good simple idea I recommend it.

The product arrived promptly in a massive box which was far too big for what was inside. I have tried to use the strips but the adhesive on them seems to have dried out as they will not stick. I presume that they were old stock. A complete waste of money. As they were cheap I have not bothered to send them back.

Bought these for a 30 year old lawn mower. I've used these abrasives before, & was surprised to find them here on Amazon. Great value, works just fine on the original clip-on fitting (25 years old). Sharpened the blades well, grass cuts a treat, now if I had the lawn roller from Lords Cricket ground I'd be laughing !
