Steinel Motion Sensor IS 140-2 Black, 140° Infrared Movement Detector, 14m Range, Swiveling, Max. 1000 W or 6 LED Lights

I recently installed the Steinel Motion Sensor IS 140-2 Black in my home, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations in terms of both security and convenience. Here's why I'm impressed:Firstly, the adjustability of this motion sensor is outstanding. It can be horizontally and vertically adjusted, allowing for targeted detection along the building with a wide 140° angle of coverage. This ensures that every corner of the area is monitored effectively.The range of the motion detector is also impressive, reaching up to 14 meters. This extensive coverage ensures that large areas are thoroughly surveyed, providing enhanced security and peace of mind.One of the standout features of the IS 140-2 is its use of spherical Fresnel lenses. These lenses detect people with great precision and consistency, ensuring reliable detection without false alarms.Furthermore, the optical system of the motion sensor can be swiveled through 180° and tilted through 90°, allowing for precise adjustment of the detection zone. Additionally, the detection zone can be customized using the provided shrouds, providing flexibility to tailor the sensor to specific needs.The housing of the IS 140-2 is made of UV-resistant plastic, ensuring durability and longevity even in outdoor environments. This is a good product and works well, but we have not been able to make it register us at the 12 m range as claimed. More like 8-10 meters. Easy to adjust the settings though and seems good quality. It was fitted by an electrician so cannot comment on the ease of fitting.Update: We have now managed to extend the range - it is important to get the angle just right as the IR beam emitted seems to be flattish. I think we had the sensor pointing too low so that it hit the ground too soon. It does now light up at 12m range.

Seems to work well. Wiring instructions could have been easier to follow though.

Works well, easy to install and set up, it’s early days yet but happy so far.

I bought two of these to replace two old (about 15 years old) PIRs which are beginning to work a little erratically. The old ones are no name brand, ordinary ones, one from John Lewis the other from (I think) B&Q. Having read the reviews of the Steinel PIR I was expecting something special, but it's just an ordinary PIR. The quality appears to be similar to my old PIRs (good) and the way it works is similar. In some respects the Steinel isn't as good. The controls for daylight detection and how long it stays on lack a screwdriver slot and rely on the friction of your thumb to turn them. Consequently you cannot be certain if the control is turning and by how much so there is a lot of faffing on to get this right. Still, you probably do this once when you put it up and then forget it. There is a disconcerting pictogram in the installation instructions which I interpret as telling me that I need to drill a drip hole. I've posted it. If the product needs a drip hole why has the manufacturer not drilled it? Why do I have to do it? Finally, these devices often come with plastic shutters to prevent the PIR seeing some areas. Steinel provide some sticky backed plastic. Honestly. I can't see that surviving 15 years of rain, hail, frost and snow.So, in summary, this is a perfectly good PIR but I'm not convinced it is worth paying twice the price (and more) for them. If I could get my time machine out I'd get one from John Lewis for £16 (today's price) and then, if it turned out to be flimsy junk, take it back. I suspect that it would be every bit as good as the Steinel. Save your money.

Easy to install. Adjustable and manoeuvrable device with various operating modes allowing for always on or pir controlled. Just works...The one it replaced lasted 12 yrs.

I purchased this motion sensor hoping that the known brand name would ensure quality, and I wouldn't have to replace it every year or two as I have with cheap ones in the past.Well... that didn't go to plan. The first one worked for a few weeks, then became intermittent, sometimes working, sometimes not. The range was absolutely no where near advertised, I struggled to get it to operate at more than 3m. A replacement was sent out which has now been fitted - and the range on this one is even worse. Same location and setup (I just took the head unit off the faulty one and swapped the replacement one on) and yet the range is below 1.5m.Complete waste of money, save yourself a fortune and get a cheapy one, at least they get close to their advertised spec, even if it appears to be poor in comparison!

Tried a few beforehand and sent them back overall this is the best one slightly more money but does the job very well
