A high quality soil sampler for home use
I got the TIRYIUOU soil sampler probe to obtain and send samples to the local university for soil analysis (much less expensive than home kits). This soil sampler punctured through my northeast yard’s soil with ease, and was able to get several soil samples without difficulty.Pros:- Extremely sturdy, made of steel, and does not bend at all when digging into ground for soil- Fairly large and easy to maneuver, providing more than enough soil with each core sample- Has a plastic top cover when not in useCons:- None so far

Great tool, but hard clay soils can still be a challenge
I've been using this probe, waiting to find something helpful that I could put in this review, but all I can say is that it's "awesome". Seems to have everything you'd want in a probe:1. Sturdy construction - heavy duty stainless steel tube with a solidly welded handle that will not loosen or crack2. It's sharp - Not only is the point very sharp to help penetrate the ground surface, but the soiling sampling chamber is long and sharp on both sides to assist with cutting through roots and duff3. Large sample area - although some soil samples may not want to be removed from the probe without help from a screwdriver, the sampling area of the probe is more than adequate to extract a good sample4. Ease of use - while some other probes have more metal between the tip and the start of the probe sample chamber, presumably for added strength, this model has a shorter area between the point and chamber, making it potentially quicker and easier to extract an adequate sample without sacrificing strength. However, it should be pointed out that the ease of use is largely dependent upon the soil that is being sampled. My soil is largely clay beyond the top three inches. and it was very difficult to penetrate beyond five inches. This is not because I may need to hit the gym, but rather because I worry that once the probe gets in six or seven inches, it will take a car jack to pull it out of the soil. Our soil can only be adequately probed when it is wet, and the water and clay produce an enormous degree of suction that makes retrieving the probe a real chore. This is not intended to disparage a very fine probe tool, but rather simply serve as a bit of a warning and hopefully helpful advice.

Not good!
The tool was not as described. It is very difficult to get the sample out of the tube. The rubber plugs for the handle always fall out and one is missing.

Worked in Georgia red clay
Our poor yard is struggling and we needed soil samples to take to the cooperative extension. Unfortunately, we have very solid ground with some of it having a good layer of Georgia red clay. Our previous soil sample probe snapped so we needed something a bit more substantial. This proved to be much sturdier and we were able to get all the core samples we needed. This will also be useful after we complete a year of treatments to see if the soil improved and how deep the improvement gets.

really well made soil probe
I used to use a crappy homemade soil probe made from electrical conduit, which was nothing but problems. It's so much nicer to have the real tool! It's made really well, and feels like it'll last a while. My only complaint is I wish it was a little bit longer, but that's just a nice to have. As long as your fine getting down low to the ground, it works perfectly!

Tough sampling probe
This is a beast of a sampling probe. Construction is of heavy gauge stainless steel, with the handle welded on top. The end is sharpened to a cone, and comes with a protective cap. It also comes with two bags for holding soil samples. I tried it out on a project I'm currently working on, and it gave me some useful information. It can be difficult to get it into the ground, but putting my weight on it and twisting did the job. The difficulty came with getting the core out of the sampler. I was using in in a damp, heavy clay soil, and I had a tough time getting the core out of the tube. The clay wanted to stick to the sides, and I ended up banging it on the ground, and using a screwdriver to get it all out. Still, it works well and can be a big help. Recommended. 5 stars.

Does exactly what it says it does and does it well
This is a well-made and good-quality soil sampler. As others have said, the opening is 8in not 5in, and that's a good thing. I found it easy to use: just push down hard, twist, and pull out. On some patches of my soil, it took a lot of effort to insert the sampler, so I had to stomp on it to get it to go down deep enough. That's a problem with my soil (and maybe yours too), but not a problem for this sampler - it easily stood up to me stomping on it. It comes with two sample bags, but they're not big enough for the samples my lab needs. I would get this again.

Sturdy Soil Sampler
This is a quality, well-made soil sampler. It's made with a high gauge of high quality stainless steel. It's truly the last soil sampler you'll ever buy as this baby is indestructible! The handle is strong enough to allow you to turn the probe without any damage to the probe. The end entering the soil is contoured with an edge making it easy to penetrate the soil. One word of caution. After you take the sample, the soil needs to be removed from the probe. The edges of the open area in the probe are extremely sharp! Do not use your finger or hand to remove the soil or you'll risk a bad cut to your skin. I wish they had smoothed the edges of the probe to avoid this hazard.Because of the sharp edges, I rated this 4 stars. It works well but you need to be careful extracting the soil.
