This is the book you are looking for!
The first thing you will notice about this book is the mass of relevant information and the well-organized and easy flow system. Immediately, I was pulled into Julie’s book with her straight-forward, no-nonsense manner. No fluff, just tons of useful information communicated in a clear and easy to understand manner. This resonated with my analytical and methodical left-brain thinking. This book has everything you need to get you started on building your own bookkeeping business.Further, it was as if I had I mentor right beside me encouraging me and pointing me in the right direction. Every question that has been unanswered for me in any other book was answered in this book. This book was exactly what I was looking for in supporting my journey into building my bookkeeping and accounting business. Overall, I appreciated the detail and clarity in the book alone but having access to all those forms was a pleasant surprise. The forms are super helpful and a huge time saver. This alone made this purchase a great value. Julie has thought of everything and I am very grateful that I found her book. I highly recommend it. Thank you, Julie!

Just what I was looking for.
This book is the step-by-step plan I was looking for to start my own bookkeeping business. Mrs. Aydlott does an excellent job of presenting information she would have like to have had when she was starting her own businesses. She also does a good job of laying out what your skill level needs to be before starting and emphasizing the need to offer only those skills you have mastered. In my case, it made me realize I need more hands-on experience before attemping to freelance my services. Mrs. Aydlott's book, likely saved me making the mistake of starting before I am truly ready. The author shows you what is involved in starting your bookkeeping business from the business plan to selling your business when you're ready to move on. I highly recommend this book for anyone wondering what it takes to open their own bookkeeping business or those ready to hang out their shingle.Mrs. Aydlott's book comes highly recommended by her peers. In my research, I have joined a few professional bookkeepers groups on LinkedIn. When I asked for advice, this book was mentioned immediately. Fortunately, I'd already purchased it.As a side note: I've read reviews of other bookkeeping business books where purchasers have complained that the books weren't detailed enough about bookkeeping. Just in case the title isn't clear enough, this is NOT a book to teach you HOW to do bookkeeping, although there is a helpful guide for setting up client accounts. This book teaches you what you need to know to open your own business AFTER you have bookkeeping skills.Thank you, Mrs. Adylott. This book is now part of my bookkeeping reference shelf.

Thankful For This Resource
This book is simply what it claims to be. It is an overview of the process involved in forming a home-based bookkeeping service. However, if you do not fall into that model exactly - such as your business will do taxes rather than bookkeeping or will not be home-based - you will still benefit from this book. The author speaks from experience and I like that she has released multiple editions to capture new information and address the concerns she was getting from reader feedback. This is not a bookkeeping text book but she does give an overview of the basic tasks and knowledge involved in doing the work. My only complaints are that she consistently used the term "write up services" without defining it. From the context though I was able to figure out what it means though I've been in this field and never heard it before. Also, she does occasionally reference specific standards or laws in California and Colorado, but not for other states. Though it's unrealistic to expect her to be proficient in law variances for every state, that information would have been helpful, or at least providing solid resources of where to find it.If you are thinking of launching anything similar to a bookkeeping service company, this resource is a must!!!

It's ok if you have thick skin
There is too much information that feels lightly researched, not recommended or tried, just listed. It wasn't an easy read, either, very dry. The reason I bought this book was for the start up spreadsheet. By the time I got to the link, (way in the back) I had already made my own. Then the process to get to the downloads was extremely complicated. I had to read through a diatribe on illegal purchases and then request a code with instructions to say "please." By the time I got the code, I was so insulted, I decided not to bother. It still gets 3 stars because it was just useful enough. I read Christy Pinheiro first... I probably misspelled her name... and she was shorter, more readable and had more practical and specific advice without sounding preachy. I also used her training material (Passkey) to study and pass the 3 parts of the EA exam on the first try. I feel much better about that purchase.

Practical tools, not just theory
Full of practical, useful advice, based on years of professional experience. Very readable style without sacrificing professionalism. As a student bookkeeper planning to freelance I think the author has saved me loads of trial and error. I'm already a member of AIPB and making full use of their resources, but this book filled in a lot of gaps for me about the daily challenges faced by a freelancer and how to meet them.I was also happily surprised that the customizable forms worked on my Mac. I went to the URL mentioned in the book and downloaded my forms at no extra charge. To clarify: I have automatic Mac OS updates, so I always have the latest version. Not only were the Word docs and Excel forms automatically converted to Pages and Numbers files, but I have been rapidly customizing them for my own use.I can't say enough good things about this book.

Great book, apart from being based on American system.
Great templates and resources. Worth a read, just remember it is speaking in American terminology. Good resource for someone starting up.

good value for money for those who are serious in starting their business and quick.
Very useful even for me being a Canadian bookkeeper in a process of starting a business and becoming self-employed. There is a free download link for about all the forms required in starting your business from start-up business checklist and budget and client engagement agreement etc.Marketing tips of how to promote yourself were ones of the most useful for me, especially being given from the source. Every page is full of useful tips. It became my bible for now:-)The author, Julie Aydlott is very approachable and helpful too which is definitely a bonus!!!

Perfect reference book
I worked as an Accountant for more than 10 years and I decided to set up a home-based bookkeeping business. This ebook helped me a lot in preparing my Business Plan. It's for American market but as an Australian, we just need to change the Business License Set-up Requirements and Professional Indemnity Insurance (because in USA, this is Error & Omission). Business Plan is also provided but this is probably not as exhaustive as we do in Australia. But for all other topics like the type of services, how to price each type, sales & marketing, operational forms, start-up checklist. etc... this ebook spelled them out well. Without this ebook, I could have not made my Business Plan well. Also, the author was very professional because on the day I bought this ebook, I emailed her asking for PDF version and download link of all forms and spreadsheets, she responded couple of hours after which really helped me because if I had to wait for days or weeks, I could have not finished my Business Plan soon. Thanks a lot Julie for writing the book.
