Do not buy
It’s not easy to use, don’t like the picture quality, too expensive, poor battery life, it’s not worth it .

Still 35mm after all these years
Excellent value for money. If you still want to take 35 mm photographs and you are not a professional, this is a cost-effective method of doing so.

Great
It’s for my son’s class. He says it’s good. Don’t even know if he has started using it

This model has a common unfixable shutter defect
This camera has a very common problem where the rubber shutter bumpers will start to degrade and coat the interior shutter blades with a sticky substance which effectively glues the shutter shut. If you notice black gunk on the shutter blades you camera will not work and your film will most likely be blank after developing. The fix to remove all the black gunk is nearly impossible because the degraded bumper is deep inside the camera and you can spend hours trying to clean it only for it to re-coat the shutter blades the next time you try and use it. I have tried to clean my camera so many times and I've thought I've removed all the gunk only for it to come back on its own, even when the camera was not in use. I would suggest buying a camera that isn't as old as this model because from my research of trying to replace my original EOS Rebel XS film SLR camera they will all eventually have this issue. This model was released in September 1993 according to the Canon Camera Museum website, not 1998.You can test if your shutter is stuck by removing the lens, opening the back, putting the camera in manual mode, and trying to take a 1/500 - 1/2000 shutter speed picture while aiming at a bright light like a window or your phone's flashlight. You should see light coming through the camera. If you don't, the shutter is broken and gunked up. In order to get my shutter to open I had to set the camera to a 3 second exposure time for the shutter to finally open, but it will immediately re-glue itself and this is not a fix. However, this camera was my main film camera for 20 years until I took it to Europe and lost a roll of film because my shutter blades never opened. When the camera works it's magnificent and has just the right amount of features and settings to get some really crisp shots. Some of my favorite pictures WERE taken with this camera.

This was dead on arrival. It powered up, it clickity clicked, it flashy flashed…but then it ruined 2 rolls of film before we realized that the shutter is doesn’t work. I don’t think this was renewed as much as it was just turned on, clicked and flashed, then packed up and shipped to me. Now I have to return it, and wait up to 30 days to get my money back. Meanwhile my daughter still doesn’t have a camera for photography class, so I’m going to spend money on another camera…obviously elsewhere…and basically have money tied up in 2 cameras until I get my refund. “Renewed”…just be aware!
