Expanded to the full 10 inch thickness almost immediately. Was able to sleep on it that same night with no issues. It was fairly heavy to lift on my own, but easy enough for 2 people.There was no smell to the mattress itself, but the plastic wrap around it had a pretty strong smell. It didn’t stick around though. Mattress is pretty firm, but still very soft. I’m typically a side sleeper and with my previous mattress, I would always wake up with dead arms! This one, I don’t!
