New favorite family game!
We enjoyed this so much! If you are a game-loving family or love game nights with friends, you'll love this. It involves strategy, but is not too complex. I would recommend ages 10 and up. We have four kids: 16, 13, 11, and 10. This is just a five player game (an expansion pack would be GREAT!), so we played in teams, and that worked great. It just meant two people worked together to make the decision on their turn.It sounds really complicated when you first read the instructions. But once you play a round, it makes sense and flows well. There are also little turn cards to remind you what all you can do on your turn and in what order. It's clever, the pieces are great quality, and the game play is engaging. Great game!

Easy to learn, can play with any ages
This is a family fun game. You can choose to play nice or target others. It has some memory/strategy incorporated in. Each turn you will roll a dice tower determine what monster to move, and you move that monster as you wish. Also you will be turning over tiles that will slowly shrink the island and also whatever you uncover will affect to board or be a skill you can use later on. So there is some randomness to it. Each meeple has a number on the bottom that determines the point it carries when rescued. When I played with my younger daughter I chose not to memorize the points my meeples had just to add to the randomness of it. We also played it with my father in law who doesn't play board games much, and he was able to pick up the rules pretty quick.

Solid game, easy to play, fast paced
All the hallmarks of a great game here. Easy to play. Great flow. Has interesting and impactful power ups that are not overbalanced. This is one of those rare games that's fun for adults and kids to play together. One where you're not bored playing and not so complex the kids (7-8+) are lost and you have to play for them. Finally, having the kaiju stomp around and push the the little adventures into sharks or smashing full rafts of little meeples with a sea serpent is great fun.Plays in about 30-40 mins.Well packaged, everything has a place and pieces won't get mixed in transport.Definitely worth the cash.

Awesome game, but can cause family drama!
It takes about an hour or more the first time you play to completely understand it. I do feel like the instructions could not only be written better, but also laid out better. We had to google many questions that came up that the instructions don't cover. Once we got the gameplay down, games now take less than an hour and are always different and fun. It is a cut throat game though, and it will definitely not make you any friends. If you want to win, you have to be ruthless. It is a lot of fun though, and everyone who plays it, loves it.

Better than the original mostly.
I like the replacement of the whale for the kaiju. Adds a lot more strategy to the game. The boats are now rafts and look rather bland.I'm not a fan of the new meeples. For some reason they are wearing hats and look silly. The monsters however are an upgrade and now have 2 tone pain job, making them look more realistic. The board is now free of player tips and gives you more immersion while playing. The new tiles are easier to distinguish... However, I'm not a fan of the art for the sand tiles. The 3 palm trees make it feel like it's cut and paste. They should have done better with placement to give an optical illusion of blending in.Overall, I like it.

Best family game ever!
Can't recommend this game enough. We play it with all the grandkids ages 8 up to 18 yrs. and they all love this game. One of the requirements is when under attack they must make the sounds just for fun. I highly recommend this game cuz it lasts just about 45 minutes and is easy to learn.

Great cutthroat casual game
I grew up playing Survive in the 80s, so I was thrilled to see this remake. I highly recommend the game -- easy to learn, lots of replay value, hilariously cutthroat. I don't recommend this for 2 players, but it's great with 3+. There is strategy, but a lot of randomness too. My board game group typically plays very intense skill-based games, so this is a good occasional diversion that is lighthearted but has just enough strategy.
