When I first got this I didn't have high hopes from the packaging. As u can see part of the ornament was sticking out of the box and was taped over. I was thinking was it a return? But when I got into it I could tell it wasn't. Lots of protective bubble wrap. I think the box they put it in wasn't big enough!??! Let me just get the good first. - they are a good size for a yard decor, the red and green colors are vibrant and the lights are nice with multiple settings First off you pull them open like thosr paper lanterns. They come with poles and stands however the poles just go into a hole in the top and the one in the stand there's really not anything holding the poles in. It's really the hooks that keep it in place but OK. To change the settings for the lights there is a button on the controller box on the plug - so it's not really convenient if you want to change them up while they're outside. So I guess you need to pick the setting you like and go with it. Also there are several things stated in the manual that is worrisome these are direct quotes from the manual - 1. This item is not intended for permanent installation (ok) or continuous operation (what?) 2. For safety purposes unplug item when not in use or if left unattended (it's a yard ornament I'm not attending them so I'm supposed keep plugging and unplugging them) do not use in extreme weather conditions (I guess it's not made for December winters!) A christmas yard decor but don't use in extreme weather conditions! Duh. So of course haven't actually put them in my yard yet - let's get halloween over first but I really don't have high hopes for these lasting and per the manual statements I guess I'll feel lucky if I get one season out of them. Whatever happens I will try to update my review when the season is in full swing.

These will be great in front of our net lighted hedge this year. No instructions came with our set, but it is very obvious what needs to be done once you lift up on the ornament hanger ring. (There are assembly instructions and a video on the Amazon product page) The bulb falls open from top to bottom. Then you just assemble the base parts and slip the pole up the inside for use outdoors, but it could also hang from the top ring like a regular tree ornament. The base does have anchors to push into the ground which should hold well any but the most vigorous winds. The bulbs are prewired with LED lights, all a warm white color, but when twinkling seem to also reflect the color of the bulb they are in/on. There are several twinkling, flashing, or just on modes using the button on the plug end. Each ornament is separately wired and controlled. We only completely set up the smaller bulb just to see how things work. When done, we just took out the base and pole, and the bulb neatly collapsed flat to a couple of inches thick for easy storage. Though light weight, these should last several seasons.
