Upright Bass Primer Book for Beginners: with Online Video & Audio Access

It was easy to use and read music. The diagrams, and CD made learning a whole lot easier. I enjoyed very much.

I am about halfway through the book. I was able to quickly play songs and understand the I/V approach to bluegrass bass. The video walks you through things in an step-wise manner. Playing along with the audio/video tracks feels more like fun than practice. What I did not expect was the physical demands of playing the double bass, especially the left hand strength. That will just take some time. The video quality is a bit dated but that probably does not impact the usefulness of the book. As another reviewer noted, I could not download the MP3 files and play them on another device. Once I get through the book, I feel I will know enough to muddle through a bluegrass jam

This is a great book!! The best one I've found for me, as a beginner bass player ( I started a couple of months ago). Tabs are easy to follow and it's like you are playing with a band when you practice with the cd. DVD gives you good information on lots of different topics. I also like that the songs are normally in both slow and fast pace. You can chose what kind of practice you want to do. I had never played bluegrass before...now I do! But with this basic chords you can play so much more than bluegrass. I've been trying these on country music and 50's rock'n'roll. Does the job. I'm really excited about this!! =D

This book is written in a clear, step by step, fashion for the very beginner. However, instead of getting a CD like we used to with books, the access for practice tracks are online. There is no way to download them to even put on CD to allow students to use these tracks unless they are connected online in real time. They can't go off to a room with a CD player. The REALLY disappointing thing about the practice tracks however, is that THERE IS NO MELODY being played (much less singing of lyrics) so students really have no idea how the song goes -- they just the bass and chords. This misses a good learning opportunity and frankly would bore most of my students to tears. It would be infinitely more worthwhile if a melody was being played (and even singing), even if it was lower in the mix so the bass could be heard clearly. I feel like I just wasted my money -- or I'd have to spend more on other products to get the full lessons.

I was already and electric bass player, not a studio musician by any means, but good enough to play in concert with others. This book was all i needed to get me started on the upright bass. I was able to competently play some three chord bluegrass style gospel at my church the Sunday after I received this book.

My husband just took up the Upright Bass and this book has been a great help. It has so much information in it for the Upright Bass player. Helps you with so many basics. My husband’s music teacher was very pleased with this book. It is truly a beginners book.

I had no one to help me learn and was looking for help. This is a book with CD. It walks you step by step on playing the bass. I can not read music and this has the notes plus TAB. 😍You can learn at your own pace and it is wonderful for the beginner as it starts with open G and builds each chord one note at a time. I highly recommend it.

I bought this book when I got my first Upright bass & it really helped me out a lot. It’s easy to interpret & follow along with even for complete beginners or intermediate players

This is a great introduction to learning double bass! The recordings that assist are done in slow and fast version, it aids with reading music and also gives you great logistocal advise on how to hold your bass, which height it should be etc. This is a great great great beginners book!
