Simple Self-Care for Therapists: Restorative Practices to Weave Through Your Workday

Realistic self-care for busy therapists
It would be great to stop and take a bubble bath or get a manicure between clients as self-care, but that's not realistic. Often there is barely time to take a breath. What is realistic is the ideas in this book that take just a moment, yet help therapists ground, center and remember why they do the work they do. I use these ideas myself and highly recommend them.

Not terribly helpful
I bought this book as I was planning on giving a talk on self-care to work colleagues. However it turns out the best part of the book is what is included in the "see inside" section on amazon. While I loved the idea of micro self care and how it differentiates from traditional ideas of self-care that is really the only new or novel idea presented. Most of the practices presented are very simple, may only appeal to a very select type of therapist, and are pretty easy to find elsewhere on the internet. Also many of the practices clearly come from Buddhism which is useful to know before you buy.

A must for anyone who works with intensity.
As a therapist I find all kinds of wonderful ideas that take seconds to implement. I got as much joy from reading it as doing the activities. Thank you for your companionship in my day. I've been showing it to several clients who don't have a lot of time or money for self-care.

Great gift for clinicians
I give this to graduate level clinical interns as they move on to their next training site. Self-care is important for therapists as we preach this to our clients.

Easy read, fantastic ideas!
This book is amazing! The author focuses on "micro self-care" strategies to work in throughout one's busy day. It gives those of us who care for others the motivation and hope that we too can do good self-care, a little bit at a time. Easy read and very applicable to a wide variety of personalities, ages, and professions.

Read This Book and Reboot Your Practice!
I took this book with me to jury duty, and read almost the whole book! The self-care tools Ashley lays out are exactly what I needed to reconnect with my self and to reboot my work. Everyone who works with others on a regular basis should think of this book as required reading. I've already bought a couple more books for my colleagues, it's that amazing! R. Worth the investment.
Love this book. It is well laid out and many of the suggestions are bite-sized so they can be incorporated into a busy day and hectic life. I used a couple of the exercises with my Vicarious Trauma continuing education class and the students lived them.
