Q: Reading a value even when there is no connection？

The device read a data in the OPM mode even without cable connection, it is because the device is designed to be highly sensivity to light source, even daylight. while this is not a problem and let's check the vedio and get to know why it doesn't influence result at all. 1) When connect a cable into OPM port, your hand will definitely hide the daylight and the data resets to "0". 2) when no connection, just turn the device into a direction when the OPM port against the light, or just put anything ahead of the OPM port. the data resets to "0" again.

Q: what is the fiber connector type on the tester?

FC/SC/ST 2.5mm Universal connector interface.

Q: I don't understand the rj45 tester. how do i get it to keep outputting until i walk over to the other room to test the other end with the receiver?

yes, you are correct if your cable is installed. if not, just connect the cable into transmitter and receiver seperately without walking.
