Good while it lasts
I enjoy no longer having to search for batteries to make the flashlight work. I do not enjoy cranking for a full minute and only getting 3 minutes worth of light. 1 minute of cranking does NOT give you 1 hour of light. I would suggest another brand.

Junk
I just received my order. One of the lights does not work at all; the other works sometimes. When it does work it only lasts 1-3 minutes after a full 1 minute of winding. Unfortunately it is not cost effective for me to drive 38 miles to return this junk.

Check it out before opening...it allows you to test one of them..
We have had the duropro light before...it is a great idea and ours has worked for years. The new one received does not work so will return it but will replace it. The item is worth the money

After about 5 years.
Ok, I had 2 from Costco hanging around the house. and they showed the same symptoms that other complained about, you could crank them and get some light, but it went out shortly after you stopped cranking. I took one apart, and found the large coin-cell in the unit was a rechargeable lithium battery. As has been my experience, (widely observed) if you leave rechargeable batteries discharged for any length of time, they stop working.Obviously designed to sell in the store, A rechargeable lithium battery is a captivating idea, and was in its day. However it is still a battery.I ordered 2 appropriately sized Ultra capacitors and replaced the lithium coin-cells today. and now they work as designed. Wind them up and they stay lit for a while. I haven't timed them but I suspect that the ultra capacitors probably only have a fraction of the capacity of the Lithium batteries had when new. The flashlight has 4 screws holding it together. (hey its nominally serviceable) and there are 3 screws holding the PC board down. The coin cell is soldered in, and the replacement capacitors needed to have holes drilled to mount on the board properly. So unless your familiar with soldering, and drilling small holes, this is a more advanced repair project. The BIG thing about capacitors that differ from batteries, is they don't care if they remain discharged for any length of time, they work on different principles. So I don't expcet them to come on when they have been setting arround for a while, But they will now work as cranking lights when I need them to now. So what If I need to crank them when I need them for a minute or so.I bought the ultra-capacitors from amazon back in September, and just finished them today.they were"Supercapacitors / Ultracapacitors .68F 5.5V B00DEFSF0K new Materro LLC $4.54I saw that they are no longer in stock at Amazon. I found similar in a search at [...]they were on DigiKey's website.I expect you should be able to fit larger ones in the case than I picked, and double the runtime.like this one looks like it would fit. My wife loves it
I bought this for my wife, who keeps one by her bed in case of power outage, which is a regular occurence where we live. The only downside is that the battery does not hold a charge. It seems that even after charging it fully, if I pick it up the next day, it is dead. Fortunately, two turns of the handle will charge a dead battery enough to start giving light immediately.

once it loses it's charge it never comes back
...essentially making you walk around while constantly winding it just to get light. If that's your bag, purchase today!

Good Flashlight but Rechargeable Battery Requires Attention
Got a pack of these self-powered flashlights a little over one year ago--my husband and I each have our own to play with. . . (We infrequently have power outages.) After letting his flashlight go totally juice-less twice, his light is now dimmer than mine even after recharging it; my flashlight is still fairly bright. We've only used the flashlights less than 10 times, each time less then 5 minutes. After re-reading the Amazon reviews and visited DuraPro's website, I was still left with a question: could I ever over-crank this flashlight and damage it? A call to DuraPro told me "no", but I still have my doubts. Therefore, I did some web-surfing on the Li-Ion cell (the DuraPro rep told me it should last roughly 10 years) and gathered the following info:1. A Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) cell that drops only once below its minimum voltage can lose 50% of its capacity right away and the damage is permanent. => Keep the battery charged rather than letting it lose its charge.2. A Li-Ion battery doesn't have any memory effect and is unable to absorb any overcharge. However, if a battery is inadvertently overcharged, the continuous trickle charge could lead to instabilities and cause the cell to heat up. => Crank the flashlight in proportion to the amount of time the flashlight was used, i.e. if used for 10 minutes, crank it at 2 revolutions per second for 30-35 second. (If the flashlight has been in storage, crank it once every 3 months, as stated in the user guide.)3. Lithium batteries wear with age--as the battery gets older, the overall capacity will diminish, whether you use it or not; aging starts on the manufacturing date. => Since it's easy to get to the battery (according to a previous reviewer) I suppose, one can replace the old Li-Ion battery with a new one using a soldering gun.?4. Extreme heat and/or cold can dramatically reduce the lifespan or even destroy Li-Ion batteries entirely. => Don't leave the flashlight in the car during the hot summer/the cold winter.I just got another pack of these flashlights (with radio and emergency alarm; the alarm is not that loud though) from Costco for my dad yesterday. Hopefully, above tips will be of use.
