Principles of Colloid and Surface Chemistry, Revised and Expanded (UNDERGRADUATE CHEMISTRY SERIES)

Very nice book
I think this book explains the fundamentals of colloid/surface chemistry very well. It gives some detailed examples, that if followed, provides the reader the concepts and insights that may be difficult to understand. As a student, I would recommend buying this book in the first year in a masters/ PhD program as the concepts can be used throughout the program.

Good undergrad book
Bought this as a supplement to my graduate courses in surface chemistry. While there is better text available for graduate-level study (Adamson and Gast), this book does a superb job of laying the foundation in colloids and surface chemistry. With a strong background in physical chemistry, the subject matter will be a breeze to learn. I struggled with the courses until I picked this up. I applaud the author for a fine job in organization and layout of material, as well as a basic delivery of theory.

This is a hard subject to write a good book about...
...but it seems that Hiemenz has done it again. The formatting isn't excellent, and the organization and presentation could be better, but overall this is not an easy upper-undergrad subject to write a textbook about. Overall, Hiemenz does a good job of showing you the "source code," i.e. derivations/complete math, where it counts and skipping it when it doesn't. And though I hate doing the application-based problems at the back of the book (I prefer theory-type problems for understanding), I can't deny that they do solidify the concepts and drive in the key points. The quick review questions at the end of each chapter for re-visiting concepts are also very useful.

Three Stars
Not enough examples and overly wordy

Good comprehensive book
This book provides a great overview of principles of colloid and surface chemistry. It is becoming slightly outdated but still adequately covers the basics necessary for a good understanding.

An excellent introduction to surface and interfacial phenome
As a teacher of these topics I found this book an excellent one.A very good coverage of fundamentals such as surface and interfacial tension, intermolecular and colloidal interactions, colloidal stability, liophobic and liophylic colloids, electrokinetics phenomena. All these complex topics and more are treated in a very clear and rigorous way. I strongly reccomend this book.

good for what it's meant
this is a good textbook for use in a class. goes over many important concepts including rheology, colloid stability, light scattering, etc, but does so occasionally in a manner that is superficial.i would find this a good book to have sit on my desk for general reference on the subject, where, if the book did not have enough information, i would continue to a lit search.

Paper binding quality...
Hi. I didn't start reading the book yet but I think that the binding is not of good quality. Probably with the use the book will fall in to pieces...
