not the best for beginners
If you have any previous knowledge or experience with databases or SQL, then this might be for you. In that case, it might be a 5 star rating. IF you, like me, are a complete beginner, you will find this book lacking tidbits of information every once in a while. I imagine someone already established in databases or SQL will be able to cope with that easily, but total beginners? maybe not....O, and 11g isn't the latest release of Oracle's DB. Yet another reason to reconsider.

Resource Worth Having
This book to me is a great way to learn how to navigate and fully utilize the MySQL Workbench. With the knowledge and reference you get from this book and a little practice you can work your way around workbench to get the most out of your mySQL database.

Confusing, Impossible to Follow
Chapter 3 is pointless. I think the author's description of one-to-one and one-to-many relationships is bogus. He should work with real-world tables and columns to describe his ideas instead of triangles and diagonal lines.Page 143-146 he completely skips over the Common_lookup table creation. He then tries to pair the table1 with table2 (common_lookup) via an index/foreign key without even going over the (common_lookup) table creation or which keys are primary/not null/etc. Lastly, his image on page 146 or 147 when he creates the foreign key shows columns from two separate tables, which isn't even possible. When I do the same it shows the same table I originally selected under referenced table under referenced column. As such, this book is bogus. I had to google around to figure out how to install the program. It's not up-to-date. Overall, the author does go over some topics well and I was appreciating the book. Now I'm annoyed and trying a different book.like 30% of amazon e-books for coding are complete trash after like 50 pages of filler. I'm so annoyed
