D-Link WiFi Router AC2600, Smart, Mesh (DIR-2640)

I am using it for security suveillance cameras and NVR plus wifi mesh with another repeater TP-link, Google chromecast to tvset; by its powerful processing power connects nearly instantaneus a wifi appliance for example android phone. My PPPoE connection has no disconnections at all none whatsoever, altough my old router was disconecting me from the broadband because the wifi webcam administring phone was umpleasant for the windows 10 firewall of the PC forcying me to use the phone on the 5G/LTE internet at home in the wifi range domain only to keep the surveillance camera connected by wifi on the internet in order to run it well which was very annoying - but with this router no problem.Another plus is how all the equipment is functioning off the bat at the moment of finishing the phisicaly wiring of all devices in a cabinet, at the elecrical power switch powering on : instantly the net is everywhere no overridings at all at the booting up in function including wifi + UTP local network, everything that is been phisicaly powered off from the grid one hour before, cables removed from their sockets for the rewiring through the cabinet holes.Deficits I didn't met no one ever.

The router is advertised as dual band, and it automatically chooses 2.4 or 5.0 MHz based on what works best. This does not work for us. We have 3 smart devices that only work with 2.4, and they simply don’t connect.

My ITS/CIS Son wanted to set up OpenWRT for his VPN service, and this router was most cost effective option available for him to experiment on. He found only one major issue, you'll need to use a slightly older version browser to do the initial memory reflash, but once that first step was out of the way, the process can be done on any browser, and was easy to do. He recommends this router as a great starting point for someone wanting to use a VPN for their home network, not just per computer.He found the information, appropriate firmware and instructions for redoing the router at openwrt.org. Migration to using it as a VPN router was a relatively simple, step by step process, and well documented on the OpenWRT website. Setting up the VPN side was covered on the VPN provider's websites, so for whicher brand/service you choose you can find what you need to make it work smoothly on an enabled router.For roughly $30, it was a great buy, and wasn't a huge risk if somehow the router gets bricked. I think the lower price is because D-Link ceased DIR-2640 production a while ago, and product support of this model ended in June, but that doesn't mean the router is dead to the world; to the contrary, he'll probably get several years of good use out of it before it is ready for our local electronics recycling center. :-)

After using the stock firmware for a while: It functions but is missing a couple desired features (separating 2.4 and 5 wifi names, for instance). Seems very focused on being easy to use rather than power-user capable. Range and speed are pretty good AFAICT.BUT. OpenWRT was easy to install, it has plenty of RAM for tons of modules, and I now have everything I could ever dream of within easy reach. Which was the main reason this was even on my "to buy" list. So I'm super happy with it.

For a $140 wifi router, this DLink one sucks. It does what others have warned. It drops devices throughout the day. And when those devices try to reconnect, it won't let them. Even if you try to manually reconnect and re-enter the wifi password. Only by turning off and on the router, will it fix things. How silly for a $140 wifi router. I had a Honeywell Smart Thermostat, a Brother Wireless MFC Printer, and Gaming Laptop. And yep, in less than 2 days' use, all 3 got knocked off several times. I could not manually reconnect the thermostat nor brother printer by turning them on and off. Nope. Only when I unplugged and replugged the DLink router, did those devices "automagically" get allowed to connect to the Dlink router. I experienced this twice, where only rebooting the router fixed those devices having been offline for hours. Just reboot, and then they are allowed to reconnect to the router. Silly. The signal strength is strong over my house. But what good is signal strength is you have to reboot the darn thing once or more times a day, to allow your devices to be allowed to reconnect? Silly.

Exalto que el articulo llegó en la fecha estipulada, pero mas de allá de eso cumple cabalmente las expectativas que tenía y me ayudo a superar las molestias insuperables que el anterior router me ocasionaba. Recomiendo ampliamente este router

Previously had a tplink 1750 router running openwrt, on the speed test I was getting 130 Mbps, this router puts down a solid 200+ Mbps on stock software, For under $40 its a decent speed upgrade. I run two gaming rigs while video streaming ect is going on in the living room and there isn't a noticable performance loss, I call it a win.
