The weight is similar to a t-shirt, but it is definitely a sweater type material, not like a t-shirt or sweatshirt. Does that make sense? What I guess I mean by that is, it's a material that could snag, not smooth.

This is a fine knit sweater. Not like tee shirt material but sweater material.

I am not sure what size you normally wear, I found this cardigan to be the size that I normally wear for T shirts and other tops. I like it very much, but it is truly lightweight. I hope my answer helps.
