Incredible Value and Quality
I have an older, expensive Buffet clarinet but it needs to be reconditioned. (Although I am now retired, I used to play professionally when I was younger so I know a few things about the instrument.) After many years of not playing, I picked up my clarinet several months ago and started playing for fun. Because the Buffet really needs work on it I decided to try my luck on an inexpensive clarinet. In spite of the many good reviews on the Hisonic, I did not expect much. However, in a nutshell, I was blown away! This clarinet is easy to play, has exceptionally good tone and is everything anyone would want in a clarinet (with the exception of professionals, of course.) All I can say is that if people are having problems with it, they either have a lemon (which I suppose is possible) or more likely, are playing with the wrong strength reed, or most likely, need to learn how to blow into the instrument. For a person who has never played the clarinet, it is necessary to learn the correct embouchure, etc. It is not uncommon for a novice to be unable to get a sound out of even the most expensive instrument. With the right kind of instruction and practice you will find that this clarinet is a pleasure to play.In summation, assuming that the instrument holds up for a reasonable period with no manufactured defects, (I just received it yesterday) it is hard for me to see how the quality of this clarinet can be beat even for a price well above what it is being sold for. This one is a true winner!Five months later:I have now had the clarinet for approximately five months and I play it almost every day. Everything I said above still very much applies and then some! This is a beautiful, well made, exceptionally good sounding instrument. I could not be happier with it. If you have any thoughts about purchasing a clarinet, do yourself a favor and select this one. You will be very glad you did.P.S. If you are a beginner, buy yourself 1.5 strength reeds. You will find them easier to play (than the higher numbers) and they sound great on this clarinet.

A good long term purchase
Edited with an update:It is now four years later. My daughter is still in band and still playing this clarinet. We are on our third case because she’s brutal on cases and we’ve upgraded to a better mouthpiece to help get her a better tone especially on the high notes, but this is common among serious clarinet players using midrange instruments. Her pads and keys are in great shape. We’ve had to repair some cork joints, but this is an easy DIY job with 1/16” cork from McMaster. This instrument was a great purchase.Original review:My daughter is in 4th grade and was just offered the opportunity to join band. I played clarinet from 5th grade through college on a high quality true wood clarinet, but sadly don't have my instrument anymore. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive starter clarinet for her as I'm not too sure of her commitment to playing. I read reviews of other products on Amazon but decided to go with the Hisonic clarinet because of the comments regarding a better sound and quality pads. I am extremely happy with my purchase and truly believe it is worth the money over the $60-$80 products! The corks and pads are both excellent quality. Although the body is not true wood (you'll pay several hundred dollars for that), don't believe anyone who tells you this is a cheap toy instrument. The key alignments are excellent and the pads are tight. I was able to play well on it straight out of the case and my daughter has been able to get a good sound with just a little technique coaching. I can see this instrument lasting her through high school if she takes good care of it.

Perfect for a starter
Purchased this instrument for my granddaughter who just decided she wanted to take clarinet lessons. I certainly wanted to encourage her learning to play an instrument and so didn't want to purchase something that was cheaply made. But because she is at an age where her interests change quickly, I also didn't want to spend a lot of money on something she may only use for a few months. This was the perfect middle-ground! The clarinet is clearly not a top quality instrument, but it's construction is sturdy and it produces a great quality sound. Keys line up fine and it comes with everything needed to get started (cleaning kit, a reed, cork grease). No instructions included for determining how to put the pieces together, but that was easily addressed by Googling a picture of a clarinet. The cork between the sections seems very thin to me. We are using plenty of cork grease to avoid any potential problems, but I am not sure if it will be an issue with continued use. The case is very study and should protect the clarinet well on those bus rides to school. All in all, I'm very happy with it - a great product for the price!
