Seemed to work
I had a large koi (2ft) that got out of the pond somehow and I went out into the backyard to find the dog chewing on him. We thought he was probably dead, but put him back in the pond and he slowly swam away. I bought this antibiotic to hopefully help heal the two injuries he had from the dog. The only downside is that you have to turn anything like UV lights off while you are using it, so you might get some green in your pond while those are off. However, this is about a month later, and my fish is doing great. The injuries are healed over. Note: the antibiotic does create a lot of "suds" on top of the water, just FYI. But since my fish didn't die, and the injuries healed over, I am assuming it was due to this product.

His swelling gradually got better and he's alive and well today
Update: my fish is still alive today. His growth was stunted but alive and well! This product along with pond salt and Pimafix antifungal saved my fish. My koi fish developed dropsy, had no clue what that was at first. I assumed he would likely die based on all that I read about it. Not sure what the cause was but I figured I would try to treat the fish. Isolated the fish, was sure to oxygenate the water/container he was in, gave him a salt bath according to the instructions on the pondsalt container, added ponsalt to the pond as well. Put my fish back in the pond and treated the pond along with the other healthy fish according to the instructions on the bottles. His swelling gradually got better and he's alive and well today. It's been about 2 months since I treated him. All 3 products did not affect the pond plants or the other fish. Great products!

A natural, safe remedy for minor bacterial problems (NOTE: many argue it's not safe for Gouramis and Bettas!)
I use this product to treat my fancy goldfish when I have a problem with them. It's not harsh like a chemical antibiotic that can kill off a biological filter or a weak fish, and I've grown to kinda like the smell (Tea Tree Oil.) Problems I've treated for are mainly fin splitting, as fancy goldfish may look very placid, but they can damage their delicate fins on almost any surface, especially in spawning season. This product is concentrated for pond use, so it's also a better deal than the aquarium version, I believe.I have not had any success treating internal problems with this product, and it may not be safe for Anabantoids (air-breathing fish like Gouramis and Bettas,) despite "Bettafix" being the same product in a smaller bottle. Use caution with these fish! And don't overdose *any* fish! Just because it's natural, that doesn't mean it's completely harmless when used incorrectly.

Doesn't stress fish. Sometimes helps. Nothing has ever died.
This has never stressed my fish. I have only had it work twice together with pimaflex to heal an open wound and a cut lip. The wound healed nicely on my 2 year old pond goldfish and when my 20 year old goldfish ripped part of her lip this seemed to help it heal faster.I always try to use this before using chemicals on my fish hoping it will really work but usually I have to end up using something stronger.I do think it works better on the younger smaller fish than the larger ones.Fish seem ok and not stressed when I use it. Which I like.It has not hurt my bio filter, my plants or the kazillilion snails on the new plants I bought. This is why I use it first. It has received a lot of positive feed back from goldfish communities.I will always keep it on hand and use if needed. My feelings are mixed on this product.

It works.
I had good results with this. I used it on goldfish that had sores and were possibly poisoned somehow. I lost 2 fish before I tried this and saved 3 after. The smell is of tea tree oil, Not my favorite but the fish did not complain. It foams the water a bit but that is what it does. I would use this again.

Seemed to help
Our fish were getting beat up during mating season so I purchased this to help repair their scales. The pond definitely foams up but you can smell the tea tree oil so I felt it was doing something and the fish healed up shortly after.

5 times stronger than regular Melafix, 25 times stronger than Bettafix
Great potency for the price but so strong you have to be careful not to over-dispense

Snake oil?
** Update **I've been reading that Melafix is nothing more than snake oil? That how can it only kill *bad* bacteria and not good bacteria? I mean, wouldn't it kill ALL bacteria? Is this stuff legit or does it just make the water smell like Icy Hot? The fishes natural defenses will help it heal if the water quality is good (with frequent water changes) and also an occasional salt bath. Also, the phenomena I describe below where my fish are swimming to the surface could have been irritation in their gills from the Melafix?! I am seriously having second thoughts on this stuff and wonder if it really is just snake oil?OP:Noticed 2 of my 15 koi "flashing" yesterday so I decided to give the pond a Melafix treatment. Followed the directions exactly and within seconds after applying to water, there were suds and bubbles covering the surface, the Melafix was already doing it's job. Came back an hour later to an amazing site! ALL of my koi were at the base of the waterfall breaching the surface and swimming up into the suds! Just swimming in place, at the surface and enjoying the Melafix. I don't know if it soothes their skin or just feels good to them or they get a "high" from it running thru their gills, but they were definitely all there being social and enjoying themselves (not gasping for air). I'd like to know more of what effect Melafix has on them? I've dosed the pond a few times now and they definitely seem happy about it. And my pond is very clean and I've had no problems with sick fish prior to using Melafix. Anyway, highly recommend. Reduces stress, helps their healthy enzymes and also rebuilds their slim coat. Good stuff and great value, ordering another bottle now!
