A very accurate 1/700 carrier model of intermediate difficulty
First: this model requires paint and glue. It is not a toy and is for plastic modelers. The model comes with a very nice painting guide and very accurately molded plastic. I also purchased the Tamiya paints and extra thin cement and a set of sprue cutters: would recommend these to make building the model far easier. There is very little flash to remove and the parts fit together well for the most part. This is part of the waterline series meaning it does not come with propellers, keel and rudder details etc. and looks as if would if it were on the ocean but I prefer this for shelf displays. It has a healthy fleet of planes(3 different fighters/bombers) and a lot of excellent detail. The painting is fairly straight forward, no complicated camouflage patterns(unlike the USS Hornet). That being said, it is a challenging model and I would not recommend for a beginner but it is an excellent choice for an intermediate or advanced modeller and the painting is easier than some carriers. As for Best Services: a mediocre vendor at best. They missed the projected ship date by a week, did not update the shipping status for weeks(the invoice was printed out the day I ordered it), and customer service was curt. If it's the best price and time isn't an issue they are still below average.

Challenging but satisfying
Bought this for my 12 yr old son, who has some experience assembling model kits that actually require gluing, sanding, etc. Typical Tamiya kit with good fit and virtually no flash. Challenging because of the numerous tiny parts (and decals). Very nice waterline model with lots of planes on the flight deck. I helped him with painting and weathering, but he did almost all of the assembly by himself. The only bummer was having to wait for the kit to be shipped from Japan (it took almost a month!)

Good detail. Is the small version of this model
Have a lot of Tamiya products. Fit well, and highly detailed. This is the water line version. Hull goes just to the waterline, so no red painting the bottom. Good if your stuck for room.

A work in progress !
I have studied the Yorktown for a lot of years and was a little disappointed in this kit ! She was only in the first part of WWll before she was sunk and they missed a bit on this one. They tell you in the instructions that the kit may not match picture on box and they were right. I was however to correct some of the things that were missing. Bow guns on both port and starboard sides and removing a couple of gun mounts on starboard side about midships that were never there. Other then that the kit pretty much is the same as the real thing ! Again they do a great job and it is a pleasure building them! Give's and old retired guy something to do when the snow flies.

Unacceptable!
Opened the box to find a smashed box! Then went to touch it and it was wet!

Quality molding and fitting
My adult son has had a great time building this model. He stayed on the Yorktown as a Boy Scout, so it had special meaning. Great model!
