A Great 3rd Edition: A New Look
The reviewer who finds the production aspects of this edition woefully inadequate must have received a throw-away copy. Mine is nicely bound, with wonderful pictures to accompany a great text. So far as I can see it is the same text as the 2nd edition, which was an outstanding text with which to learn Greek. Each chapter begins with vocabulary to be learned; then comes a large Greek reading section, whose vocabulary will usually crop up later in chapter vocabulary lists. Then comes grammar, clearly explained, and then exercises. Finally comes information about Greek history and culture. One simply could not ask for a better beginning Greek text. It is so well thought out that it is used even in secondary schools. If you want to learn Greek but are afraid it might be too hard, then this book is for you. If you are intrepid and diligen and passionate about learning Greek, then this book is also for you. Just keep in mind the Latin maxim, Repetitio est mater memoriae: Repetition is the mother of memory. We learned our mother tongue through endless repetition. That obtains for all language learning. Study each day with this fine text and you should do very well.

An Excellent Introduction to Ancient Greek language and civilization
The emphasis placed on reading passages of Ancient Greek from early on is exceptional. The stories used to anticipate the grammar are lively and build upon each other in a clear trajectory. The design and color photos and layout are beautiful, and the essays on different aspects of Ancient Greek life and culture are instructive. My one caveat is that if you desire a more straightford, systematic presentation of the grammar you may prefer the Learn to Read Greek textbook by Andrew Keller and Stephanie Russell. However, the latter textbook fall shorts in preparing one to read long passages of Ancient Greek in which Athenaze so excels.

Excellent book to learn Classical Ancient Greek.
The book arrived on time, well packaged. Some Greek textbooks are better than others. I have used three, and this is the best so far.

Good book but way overpriced.
I like the cultural info. I recently purchased the Italian versions and they are far superior. These English versions have way less Greek material in them. The trade off is that unless you are fluent in Italian you won’t understand some of the hints and the cultural dialogue. These still are great books but way overpriced for what they are.

This is supposed to be Ancient Greek
I like the concept, but agree with the price, way, way too pricy. That said, my main complaint is this: it's supposed to be Ancient Greek, so why is so much about New Testament Greek? If I wanted to study that field, I could {and do have} many books on that subject. Are you trying to subliminally try to foist your own religious beliefs on us? Thankfully, vol 2 goes back to the main gist of what Athenaze was meant to be--Ancient Greek.
