A little dry, but has the detail needed.
Bought this as it was required for a module on my university course.Physical quality was good, printed well.Overall the book is good, I believe it's fairly standard reading material for software engineering courses. It's a little dry to read, but overall was good for helping me revise for exams. The section on software architecture types was good, with good analogies to help understand them.

Must have book when doing your Computing degree
I got this first edition back in 1985 when at uni so I wanted to see what has changed in the passing years.Just like the original book, its well constructed (for long term use), easy to read, well laid out - its very functional and squarely aimed at academia, for sure its a book that any software graduate would have read.It can be a little dry, but its about Engineering and its deep - are you a coder or a Software Engineer?

Smudged text throughout
The content of the book is perfect nothing wrong with it. However, I can only give 3 stars as my new copy has come with smudged text on nearly all of the 205 pages I've read so far, which whilst readable is incredibly off-putting and disappointing for a book costing this much.

An excellent introduction to software engineering.
The negative reviewers here probably forget to take into account the fact that this is an academia oriented software engineering textbook and in my opinion is one of the best in it's class.

Book for first years
I'm studying Software technology in Sweden and the teacher is reading this book page by page. Basic knowledge for newbies in Software.

Good as a reference
Good as a reference, way too repetitive as a textbook. More examples would have been nice besides the 4 case studies analysed throughout the book. Hard to memorize in view of a university test. Take into account that the subject is boring 'per se' and this does not depend on the book.
