That was easy
I had just rebuilt the engine in my wife's 2003 Solar. It's actually a great engine, once you address the root cause of head gasket failures. Being an aluminum block, with no factory thread inserts for the head bolts, failure is just a matter of time. The solution is not to use oversized bolts, but to use solid steel thread inserts. I bought the inserts, tap and drill for about $100. It took me a couple of hours to install. The engine runs like new. However, shortly after putting the car back in service, upon startup there was a horrendous rattling coming from the top of the engine. I pulled the valve cover, thinking I had forgotten to torque a cam bearing block or phaser. There was no sign of any issues. I told my wife to just drive it. After a few weeks, the noise upon startup began lasting longer, and became more apparent on hard acceleration. After a brief search, the vvt solenoid was listed as possible cause. I was hesitant to purchase. It was an inexpensive part, which is quicker to replace than a spark plug. Surely, the problem would be more expensive and labor intensive. Not coming up with any other likely ideas, I bought it. It took all of about 5 minutes to replace. Disconnect wire harness from solenoid located at front (passenger side)left side of engine on cylinder head, remove 10mm bolt, remove. Install new solenoid, making sure to lubricate o-ring, replace bolt and wiring.I started it, fully expecting noise to continue. The noise was there for a split second, then disappeared... for good. I would imagine it took a second to get solid pressure to the cam phaser.Car runs like new, service engine light gone, wife happy, I got a little boost in confidence.

Make sure you but a dab of grease on the o ring when you replace the new one
It worked pretty well let all the customers know that it's pretty difficult to replace but it might be a little time consuming but you will get it replaced ps it's not located on the transmission. It is located on the back of the engine on the top back in the camshaft head

Don't bother with the cheap aftermarket ones like this. Spend the extra money and get the OEM one.
This valve worked ok for about a month and then the engine started throwing 'intake timing too advanced' codes. I bought and installed an OEM valve and no more codes plus the engine runs better now. Too late to return this one so it was a waste of money. Get the OEM valve the first time so you don't have to do it twice.
