Outstanding Training Tool!
Picked up the Mantis Laser Academy Portable Training Kit to practice shooting fundamentals at home, and honestly, I’m blown away by how effective it is. Setup was quick and simple, the app integration is seamless, and the feedback is impressively accurate. This kit has definitely improved my trigger control, accuracy, and overall confidence without burning through ammo at the range. Perfect for dry-fire practice whenever you have downtime. Worth every penny for anyone serious about improving their shooting skills. Highly recommend!

Perfect for Dryfire, but…
The Video-course and the App is absolutely great. Yet unfortunately the tripod is crap, two legs broke at the third use.

Dry fire
The idea is fantastic, but the product was a little costly and the tripod is so cheap !!!! You’re better off buying a bullet with the laser , I end up returning it and buying a laser bullet

Outstanding tool for a beginner or experienced shooter
I was a combat marksmanship coach for the Marine Corps back in 2012. This system could have saved countless hours of instruction, and allowed for immediate correction. The laser academy UI is easy to use without being uselessly simple, getting started takes all of five minutes if you're familiar with your weapon, and the data presentation is perfect. As a teaching tool this system is perfect for beginners, and even experienced shooters will find, and correct an issue they'd never identified, I certainly did.

Fun trigger time at home
Love the app and the kit. Really the most important parts are the laser cartridge, the app unlock code, and the targets. The little phone tripod and phone holder are sort of "plasticy" and don't feel like they will hold up to long term repeated use. They work to hold your phone steady but if you use this system a lot, eventually you'll want to upgrade to a more robust tripod and phone holder. The targets are half the size of the "letter size" targets, so when the app tells you to set up the targets at a specific distance, you have to cut that distance in half for these smaller targets. The kit does include some sticky putty to allow you to temporarily stick the targets to a wall or other flat vertical surface. I find that another solution is to use large binder clips on the bottom of the targets to help them stand up so you can set them on a table. If you have place card holders for dinner parties, those would work well as stands for these targets. The app has a "shoot to calibrate" feature that accounts for the offset between where the laser dot strikes the target, and your point of aim. This is essential to get set up right, and if you change distances, it will need to be recalibrated. This is true of any laser detection app, not just the Mantis.A .inor downside is that it doesn't specify whether the distance to the target is to be measured from your feet, or the muzzle. When you are using the half size targets in the kit at 2 yards for the equivalent of letter size targets at 4 yards, the length of your arms makes up almost half the distance to the target. Unfortunately I can't find anything that clarifies where you measure from, so for the challenges I have assumed it was the muzzle, which is the longer distance.Another issue is the app doesn't make full use of my phone's multiple cameras when zooming. You have to place the phone within just a few feet of the target, even if the phone has a longer focal length camera available. The problem here is you end up having to start the app and then quickly step back to your correct distance before the beep. The kit does include a "start/stop" target that allows you to start a drill by shooting the start/stop target, so there is an option for controlling the app without touching the phone.Overall I would say if you already have a laser training cartridge (not an always-on bore sighting laser) you might do better to just buy the bigger targets and pay to unlock the app, especially given the eventual need for a better tripod and phone holder anyway. And, for distance purposes, I did find some scaling spreadsheets for these that a Mantis rep posted online. These show you the distance scaling based on the target size for several of the included targets. These should be included in the kit or in the app, but I didn't even know they existed until I was looking around online to learn more about the scale of the targets. In the end, I'm happy with the kit overall. It makes shooting practice almost like a video game. Some of the challenge stages require really precise offset calibration and precise shooting. The numbers target is a beast to get through with no misses.I also liked the shot sound effects and cases hitting the floor. It adds to the experience and makes you feel more like you are at an indoor range.I did test this with another brand of visible red laser cartridge and it works with that one as well.I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is the lack of more detailed info on setting it up for various distances and where to measure from, and the app needs to make full use of the available camera optical zoom options of the phones.Be prepared to have fun with this kit and running through the courses, and be prepared to be humbled a bit as well. This system is unforgiving of poor trigger control and grip handling. It will expose any flaws in your technique, and it will make you a better shooter.
