Paying it forward
So I'm in town to pick up my mail and I go by the local coffee wagon to get a cup of joe to go. The people that run it are super nice. It's a mother, daughter operation and I've known them for years and am always pleased to be able to make a purchase from them. They know I have my own espresso machine, but I always make a point when I'm in town I go by to visit. On that particular day, I have just gotten my new tamper from MHW-3BOMBER. While I was talking to them, they remarked about how many cups of espresso they made each day and how it took a toll on their wrist. Now of course they were still using the basic tamper which requires you to manually press down. And let's be honest, depending on your strength level, how well is it going to work, especially over the course of several hours. I told them that I started out the same way but quickly found the benefits of using a spring load tamper. I showed them my new tamper and told them to give it a try and see how much easier it was to use. Let me put it this way, I immediately got instant smiles and 'Wows' from them. Both the mom and the daughter were amazed at how a spring load took the strain off of the wrist when tamping. In other words, they were sold. Also, I never got my tamper back.Kid you not, they were so impressed and complimentary of the tamper that I just let them keep it. And yes, I would have loved to have kept it, but sometimes, you just have to pay it forward. They're running an independent business and I'm proud that I could help in such a simple way make it easier for them. So yes, this is an easy recommendation. The tamper is quality made and durable, giving you an even portafilter each time. And to answer the obvious question, yes I will be gladly ordering another one. Thank you.

So-so, but not my favorite tamper
I was really hoping that this tamper would be "the one" to complete my home espresso setup, but unfortunately I am not as happy with it as I had hoped. I own a Breville Bambino Plus machine and was looking for something of better quality than the cheap, lightweight tamper that Breville includes with their machine. This 53.35 mm tamper fits Breville's 54 mm portafilter perfectly, and it does have some other positive things going for it (which I will outline below), but unfortunately it is ultimately not as helpful as I had hoped it would be be in improving my shot game. I was really looking for something that would help me, as a self-admitted novice, to pull better, fool-proof espresso shots. And maybe this tamper would perform much better if being used in the right hands, but those hands are apparently not mine! LOL.I have had the opportunity to compare this tamper with a different brand, and I ultimately much preferred the results that I got when using the other brand. Again, it might just be that I am not skilled enough to use this one properly, but the other tamper felt more "fool-proof" to me, which is what I am looking for. So as a quick summary, here are a few of my thoughts and opinions below:PROS:-Food Grade Stainless Steel base (I prefer to avoid certain materials, such as aluminum, on surfaces that will come in direct contact with my food)-A threaded bottom / ripple base (supposed to yield a better extraction and therefore a richer flavor)-Level surface / Horizontal Tamping: this seems to be true, I have not noticed any uneven pressing or slanted surfacesCONS:-The puck doesn't fall out easily after brewing the espresso, so this makes me feel like I am still getting the tamper pressure wrong somehow-I prefer to use a tamper that offers some sound feedback in the form of a "clicking" noise-I prefer to be able to choose between different springs that offer different pressures (i.e. 15 lb, 25 lb, 30 lb) - the 30 lb spring on the other tamper brand that I am comparing this one to was my favorite (personally) because it yielded some great espresso shots and the pucks were easy and less messy to dump out into the knock box in one tap.
